Social Work or Public Health/Health Education?0Claudia Pantoja2012-10-27 16:24:51
I'm choosing between an MSW and an MPH ( or MA in Health Education ) . I know there are some sets of MSW / MPH programs , but none of them are close to me . At first , I was going to pursue an MSW , but I really enjoy the fields of health and medical . I have worked in physical therapy and I loved helping and teaching patients . Furthermore , because of my own chronic medical conditions , I know a lot about health and illness in general. Health education / promotion seems natural to me , however , I have read that there is a lot of jobs in this field . My BA in Psychology , but I've never worked in mental health. If I were to give a MSW, I will still be able to work in health promotion / education? I feel like an MSW offer greater flexibility and more job opportunities than a MPH . I would also advise and educate patients who have chronic pain (arthritis , back and neck ) and chronic diseases . I can do many of the same things with an MSW , I can do with an MPH ? Not interested in biostatistics and epidemiology , BTW
