Please edit/critique my college application essay?0MeMe2012-11-04 09:02:11
its not complete yet; i dont know how exactly i should end it. the topic is: describe a meaningful event, experience or accomplishment in your life and how it will affect your college experience or your contribution to the UF campus community. You may want to reflect on your ideas about student responsibility, academic integrity, campus citizenship or a call to service. Originally as baffled and flabbergasted as any student entering high school, I had not a clue about my life’s direction; desiring to change the world was too broad a concept to single out a pursuit with such little direction thus far. Aspiring to complete my community service hours and looking for insight into my future plans, that summer I immediately launched a volunteer job in which I would hold the responsibility of coordinating the summer camp activities of elementary-aged children. Since my freshman year, I have volunteered as a camp counselor for younger children with the immediate realization that I delighted in our interactions and wished to pursue a career relating to pre-adolescents. To the roughly three hundred students I’ve worked with to date, I have been a role model, a friend, and a source of encouragement. With such power thrust within me to affect the lives of these young people, I have derived from those various summer jobs an implanted sense of responsibility, as well as impeccable time-management skills and the drive to coordinate and complete my assigned tasks. Upon entering high school, I opted to take an intro to psychology class. With my thirst for knowledge and much intrinsic motivation, I longed to uncover the mysteries of human behavior. The first days of class led to an epiphany, in which I had chosen child psychology for my life’s pursuit. Besides the delectation of inspiring and assisting troubled children, a career such as this would help to spark a brighter future for America’s next generation. What better way to acquire such knowledge needed to change the world than to attend the most prestigious university in the state of Florida? As a Florida Gator, I feel as though I would be a positive, motherly source of inspiration to my campus community in times of hardship, as well as a self-sufficient, prospering and worldly student, growing everyday in a stimulating learning environment.

I am applying to enroll in the Masters in Marriage and Family Therapy program at the Eisner Institute for Professional Studies. I graduated from California State University Dominguez Hills with a BA in Psychology. As a college student, I took psychology courses in abnormal psychology, behavior modification and Family. I was always interested in the complexities of psychology and the human mind. I wanted to pursue a career in which I could work with people to help them solve their problems. I am the target of continuing my education through graduate studies in psychology who prepare more to help my future clients to the fullest. MedlinePlus My professional training is in working in the mental health field for five years with clients in a variety of environments. I worked in a residential treatment center with teens with behavioral and emotional problems, abused and neglected children who are victims of domestic violence, and external fixation with families in crisis. Clinical experience has been both in the capacity as a case manager and counselor. I am currently working with adolescents with behavioral and emotional problems in a residential treatment center. My role as a counselor is to provide supervision, advice and support to adolescents. I can help teens make positive decisions regarding daily life situations, personal hygiene, and conflict resolution. MedlinePlus I became interested in working in therapy because I experienced a family member in need of therapy for depression. My brother had been battling depression for a long time. My brother decided to seek professional help for their depression. Depression is genetic in our family, so our family also received therapy. Through years of counseling and therapy, my brother and his family benefited from therapy because we were able to heal at the same time. I understand the problems that can result from depression firsthand. I know that through therapy, people can make changes for life looking at their lives and set goals. I believe that each client has the ability to make positive decisions and choices towards a more fulfilling life. I'd like to be there for my future clients to help drive (guide) to a path of personal growth and recovery or healing, self-improvement. I am fully committed and determined to advocate for clients facing issues such as family conflict, depression and substance abuse. I believe that each client, taking into account the proper guidance, can find its way to personal success. I am eager and dedicated to learn the techniques and methods that are used to help families, children and people resolve their problems. For this reason, I would be a good candidate for marriage and family therapy program. I realize that graduate school can be quite difficult, but I am determined to be a good student to learn about psychology that will prepare me for a career in marriage and family therapy.
Can someone please edit my essay for social work?0caro2012-11-02 16:26:18
I wanted to become a social worker when I realized that Social Work is very similar to Psychology, my major in undergraduate school. Similar with the exception that it puts more emphasis on helping people find their strengths, rather than giving them a diagnosis and being predominantly problem-focused. My own experience in helping people with their problems, and enjoying it, influenced me to pursue a career in Social Work. Becoming a full professional with a graduate degree in Social Work represents the culmination of many years of personal and professional preparation. I have always enjoyed working people and helping them with their problems. At 34, I feel that I have the maturity necessary to perform at my best level once again, as a student. I also have a high level of motivation that accompanies my current position. I work with incarcerated youth who, by the way, are mostly minorities.I am deeply concerned by the explosive incarceration rates in America, specifically the way males lead the way in going to jail, rather than going to college, working, etc. I feel this sense of urgency makes me an excellent candidate for your Master's Program because I am so fully engaged at my place of employment. It is my sincere hope to be able to contribute to discussions of how to best counsel and care for at-risk youth. My research interest focuses on boys, especially those at risk for spending their young adulthood behind bars. I am currently working at Harbor View Adolescent Center. I am a Youth Counselor for incarcerated youth with behavioral and emotional problems in a residential treatment facility. In my job as a youth counselor, my primary work responsibility is to serve as a positive role model for adolescents aged twelve to eighteen. The residents have backgrounds of homelessness, and are also victims of physical and sexual abuse. Some of them were dealing with drug and alcohol abuse, depression, and juvenile justice system. At times, my job could be extremely stressful But I discovered that I had the ability to connect with the adolescents and develop strong emotional ties with them. I focused on helping them with their social skills, coping skills, and independent living skills. My main goal was to help them build their self-esteem and improve their sense of security. The adolescents that I worked with in the residential treatment facility Could get physically assaultive AT TIMES; throwing chairs and banging their heads on the doors. They would also exhibit self-harming behaviors. It was during these criTICAL situations that I would get stuck in knowing WHAT the best clinical approach WAS to use when they were self-harming. I would like to have better tools for helping these kids when they are in crisis and KNOW whether those interventions are well supported by the literature. I hope that, with the aid of a Master's Degree in Social Work, I CAN ACHIEVE that. I WANT TO be able to help my kids in THEIR TIME OF crisis and (OMITam at) TEACH them the necessary skills THEY WILL NEED TO transition into more independent WAY OF living. These youth need all the help and attention we can give them in order to fight recidivism, especially THE African- American and Hispanic males, who continuALLY come back into our system. If you were to grant me the privilege of studying in your program, I WOULD LIKE TO research the recidivisim rates of black and Hispanic juveniles and young adoLEscents. I WISH to contribute to our understanding of how we can best go about saving their lives and, at the same time, easE the financial burdens on our society.

I am applying to the Master of Social Work because I realized that social work is very similar to Psychology, which was my specialty. Similar with the exception that places more emphasis on helping people to find their strengths, rather than give a diagnosis and predominantly focused on the problems. My own experience with the improvement of people's lives and improve their well-being influenced me to pursue a career in social work. MedlinePlus MedlinePlus Becoming a professional with a bachelor's degree in social work is the culmination of many years of personal and professional preparation. I've always liked working with people and helping them with their problems. At 34, I feel I have the maturity to perform at my best, again, as a student. Also I have a high level of motivation that accompanies my current position. I work with incarcerated youth who are mostly minorities. I am deeply saddened by the high rates of incarceration in the U.S., specifically how men the way to go to jail rather than go to college and work. I feel this sense of urgency that makes me an excellent candidate for the master's program because I am fully committed to my workplace. It is my sincere hope to contribute debates about how best to counsel and care for at-risk youth. My research interest focuses on children, especially those at risk of spending his youth behind bars. MedlinePlus MedlinePlus I am currently working on H.V. HomeGroup. I am a youth counselor for incarcerated youth with behavioral and emotional problems. In my work as a youth counselor, my main job responsibility is to serve as a positive role model for teenagers between twelve and eighteen. Teens are issues such as physical and sexual abuse, abuse of drugs and alcohol, depression and juvenile delinquents. Sometimes my job can be very stressful. I discovered I had the ability to connect with adolescents and develop strong emotional ties. I focused on help with their social skills, coping skills and independent living skills. My main goal was to help build self-esteem and improve their sense of security. MedlinePlus MedlinePlus Teens who have worked in the residential treatment center could become physically aggressive at times and self-harm. It was during these critical situations that would cause problems with not knowing what the best clinical approach was used when self-harm. I wish I had better tools to help these children when they are in crisis and whether the interventions are well supported by the literature. I hope that with the help of a Master of Social Work, I can do it. I want to be able to help teens in their time of crisis and teach the skills children need to transition to a more independent living. MedlinePlus MedlinePlus These young people need all the help and attention we can give them in order to prevent recurrence, especially African American and Hispanic men, who tend to continually come back into the system. If the program if granted the privilege of studying in your program, I would investigate recidivism rates of young African-Americans and Hispanics and young adults. I hope to contribute to our understanding of how we can go about saving his life and at the same time, reducing the tax burden on our society. MedlinePlus MedlinePlus The guiding principle of my life is to help serve others who are marginalized and less fortunate people in our communities and offer any assistance I can. I have always lived by the motto "Do unto others as you would have them do unto you", and that the best way to do that is by furthering the ideal of social justice in the way we live and work. Social justice, as I see it, is the value system that recognizes the inherent worth and dignity of every human being and the right of everyone to be treated fairly and with respect. I think every person has the ability to be self-sufficient to make the best possible decisions for themselves. When we as a society truly try to see the world through the eyes of the less fortunate, who can identify with and understand each other. Only when each individual in the community saw the same level of dignity and respect can a society truly be called civilized. Those who can not demand social justice for themselves must have a voice to demand for them. I have the hope that by obtaining a Master's degree in Social Work I can be one of those voices for them.
Can someone edit my essay? thank you so much English is my second language I am learning?0KKamani2012-11-03 18:11:03
I have volunteered to take care of children at school meetings, volunteer at a preschool and an after-school program and at the children’s ministry. I have experiences the joy of working with children and learning about them as a volunteer. Teachers’ as will as parents’ have always suggested me to go into the educational career. I have considered a career in education as a preschool teacher. A preschool teacher introduces three to six year old children to school A preschool teacher has a collage education, training, have many duties, responsibilities, work environment and a good salary and benefits. First of all, a preschool teacher has a collage and training education. A Certificate of Achievement as Child Development including study in psychology as well as family and training in helping children families cope with crisis. Communication skills and learn about issues affecting families and children, but training starts when seeking work with children as teacher aides. I think that the training to be a preschool teacher will cost from Degrees offered Certificates and Associate required fees $780 full-time, $26 per unit part-time. Secondly, Preschool teachers have many duties, responsibilities, work environment. Preschool teachers provide activities to stimulate in children growth in language, social, and motor sills, such as learning to listen to instruction, playing with others, and using playing equipment. A typical day in a preschool is filled with arts and crafts, music, language and numbers games, and various other fun things, like blocks and my favorite cutting out construction paper shapes and free play to help children develop social skills. Every activity gives children a learning opportunity. Thirdly, the salary for a preschool teacher depends on experiences, level of education, and the school and center where the preschool teacher works. I think that the salary starts about $ 2, 800 per month/ $ 34,700 per year. Public schools usually have all the benefits, insurance and retirement. I think that the rewards are priceless, because children’s smiles, hugs and pays off any job that one has a passion for. In summary, I will keep on volunteering at church with the children ministry and take all the courses in early childhood at the community college to receive a Certificate of Achievement as Child Development teacher and all the required classes for an Associate Degree. Take at less 12 units and get my teaching licenses through child development program.
