Is getting a Masters Degree in Creative Writing a waste of time?7Highland Middle2017-10-27 10:10:55
I have a degree in psychology , which I found to be useless . And I'm thinking about going back to school and get a master's degree in Creative Writing , because I enjoy writing and would love to learn more techniques to make myself a better writer . I am worried , however, that this measure will not open many doors in the job market (just as my psychology degree has failed to do) . Any idea ? Thank you.
Would I be able to pursue a Masters/Phd in English with a BFA in Creative Writing?0NDW2012-10-14 23:49:03
I'm thinking of writing a double major in psychology and creative . I do not want to limit my options for my future too . I have really wanted to work on my writing skills , however , I find that reading in English tests and reviews a little dry . I also think a BFA in creative writing exclusively could help me apply my time and focus to writing. However, it is probable / possible for me to be accepted into a strong English program if my degree is not specifically " English " ? (If you decide to go this route . )
What careers can creative writing land me?0tameisha2012-10-23 01:43:50
I recently graduated from college with two degrees in most - useless : psychology and sociology . During the last year of school he had stated that he wanted to pursue a career in creative writing . Specifically , I would like to write for the entertainment industry - . Shows, video games , etc. I realize , however , that this is a noble goal and one that takes time and perseverance to achieve MedlinePlus MedlinePlus Meanwhile, I would like to find some kind of job or career that uses my creative writing skills . I have to make a living , and although it was difficult to get a job at a fast food restaurant or a department store or the like , doing something relevant to my future goals would be both more enjoyable and more useful for achievement of these objectives . < Br > MedlinePlus The problem is that I have no idea what 's out there . I am not politically mind in the least , so you write for a newspaper or similar is completely out. Storytelling seems to be a mostly useless talent in the field of financial security , with the exception of the few authors whose works are being very well received . Not exactly have time right now to go write a novel , anyway . MedlinePlus MedlinePlus So my question is , does anyone know what else it could do with a surplus of talent with the written word ? Or just suck it up and start applying at McDonalds and Wal - Mart ?

Is it possible to get a Master's in Creative Writing and a Doctorate in Psychology?2becho.becho2012-10-27 01:36:03
I Double Major in Creative Writing and Psychology , and get my master's or MFA in Creative Writing , a then get a Ph.D. or Psy.D. Psychology . I want to go into clinical psychology as a career , but I also want to continue my interest in creative writing , and I imagine this would be a good way to do it . XD I asked several teachers at my high school , and most of them believed it was possible to obtain a doctorate outside the field of his master , but I thought it would be a good idea to raise the issue here . Thanks for any information you can add on the subject !

Help in deciding a profession when my main interests are creative writing, psychology, teaching, art and Engli?0Fiona2012-11-03 02:49:50
My main interests are creative writing, psychology and teaching but I am also interested in English and art. I was thinking maybe an art therapist or English teacher or a professor in any of the subjects but I don't really know. What are the differences in pay and experience between being a teacher with an education major or a professor? I have a passion for creative writing but figure it will be hard finding a teaching position if I major in it. Also I really want to study psychology or counseling but don't know if I'm right to handle patients, I'm really sensitive and feel that I'll be depressed every day but I want to help people so I don't know. I was figuring there isn't a great demand for psychology teachers either if I wanted to be one but I’m not sure. I mean teaching sounds good because you get to hang out with kids all day and I'd way rather spend my days with youth with innocence and energy than adults in a cubicle, talk about boring, but I've heard a lot of teacher horror stories, like bad kids that are impossible, wages so low you struggle to live off of it, such rigid curriculums and bosses that you can't breathe without permission. I know some are exaggerations but I don't know I'm only a freshman in college so I don't really have any experience in any profession and was hoping for some advice, insight, answers, opinions, experiences, or just anything you have to offer. Thanks!
What college/or university is right for me? (psycholgy, creative writing, art education, campus life, Hillel)1Shanelle2012-10-19 08:53:03
I'm having a hard time finding one with the right fit, and time is running out quickly. Here's what I'm looking for in a university, if you can help me find a college with at least some of these criteria would be very grateful. MedlinePlus MedlinePlus Community: I would like a close-knit campus community, I am sure what size I'm looking for, but I would like a friendly campus with things happening all the time, especially cultural things like poetry readings and meetings. This is something I want to wait, share my interests and passions and approach new interesting and friendly people. I would like an actual campus, not a city school aapart away with everything, and not a commuter school. MedlinePlus MedlinePlus Academic: I'm looking to major in Psychology and minor in Creative Writing. Creative writing is my passion and the program should visit writers, and teachers published a publication. Psych department should have a good selection of classes and profs with a variety of interests. If this approach does not work for me, I would try to Arts Education. MedlinePlus MedlinePlus Atmosphere: I would like maybe a "artistic" school (I'm a fan of eccentricity, but not ego eccentricity), but not to the point of overpopulation "art snob '.'m Sure you know what that means MedlinePlus . MedlinePlus Judaism:. I'd like a bit of Jewish life, a Hillel would be nice, or some other org MedlinePlus MedlinePlus Location: I'd rather be near a city or town with cultural assets and opportunities. Also, I can not stand extreme cold. MedlinePlus MedlinePlus The general requirements of the USDA Agricultural Research least better. MedlinePlus My SAT and ACT are not exactly the best, just do not think well on tests, but my average is pretty decent and I would like a school looking for a person for their talent and not their qualifications in mathematics. I'm not looking at a high pressure of the Ivy League school or anything like that. MedlinePlus MedlinePlus I would prefer something like a relationship even masculine woman, but that's a higher demand over these days. MedlinePlus MedlinePlus I'm going to Interlochen Arts Academy for creative writing, if that helps at all. MedlinePlus MedlinePlus Please help! MedlinePlus
