I Double Major in Creative Writing and Psychology , and get my master's or MFA in Creative Writing , a then get a Ph.D. or Psy.D. Psychology . I want to go into clinical psychology as a career , but I also want to continue my interest in creative writing , and I imagine this would be a good way to do it . XD I asked several teachers at my high school , and most of them believed it was possible to obtain a doctorate outside the field of his master , but I thought it would be a good idea to raise the issue here . Thanks for any information you can add on the subject !

You need to do a masters degree in psychology as well , you can skip the work teachers and go straight to a PhD . No matter if you have a master's degree in another field , will also be needed in psychology , or at least the course . And psychology is absolutely necessary to enter a master's or doctoral degree in psychology (you can enter a doctoral program with a bachelor's degree and who will do the work of teachers on the way to the doctorate ) .

I know the field of clinical psychology very well , and I would say this: Get a Masters Degree in Creative Writing can actually decrease your chances of getting into a program of doctoral clinical psychology , although you may not hurt as much for a PsyD program (which is less research oriented and competitive doctoral programs ) . MedlinePlus MedlinePlus Doctoral programs are very competitive , and is generally the case that is expected to demonstrate a strong commitment to research and psychological practice . So , unless you work in the research laboratories of psychology and gain relevant experience in academia / MA / AM programs and implementation of a doctoral program , I would say get a masters in something else may hurt your possibilities of climbing supports clinical success psychology doctoral programs generally have 2-4 years of post - degree (ie after bachelor ) research or academic experience in psychology before applying . MedlinePlus MedlinePlus This can not apply to a PsyD program . However, there is also the concern of costs : the Masters and PsyD programs generally do not provide funding , so it would have to pay for them through student loans ( or their own money , if you are really rich ) . MedlinePlus So I would make sure that it is absolutely necessary before proceeding with these titles that way . MedlinePlus I wish I had more encouraging news , but I hope this is helpful to you . Good Luck !
