What exactly do you have to do during the HPSP?1Mari2016-07-13 23:30:22
I'm sorry if this question sounds stupid, I don't know much information about the HPSP (health professions scholarship program) for the military. I'm only 17 but trying to figure out what exactly I want to do with my future. I plan on getting my PhD in Clinical Psychology and if I enroll in the HPSP after college, my understanding is that after I have completed my service, medical school will be paid for. Now what I want to know is what exactly is a psychologist expected to do whilst in the program? Am I counseling soldiers? Or is the program not specific to one major?[View Answers]
Program Choice: Medical/Graduate School options?1Azaria2016-07-13 23:30:17
Hi all, I'm in a bit of a dilemma. I'm going into second year at uni and have a decsion to make a decision about what I want to specialize/major/minor in. My primary aim is medical school. However, I'd like a back-up should that not work out. I've decided on clinical psychology/neuropsychology -- which implies graduate school. The conundrum: do graduate schools prefer you to specialize, or would a double-major suffice?? Currently, I have been set on doing a double major: Neuroscience/Mental Health Studies. Primarily because a Neuroscience specialist (my original program) requires more chemistry than I'd be able to handle - keeping GPA in mind. + I have developed a strong interest in mental health studies , and am now torn between the two. Q: However, having thought about graduate school, would they not prefer a specialization in a program?????? Q: Also, regarding both medical + graduate school, would co-op be a benefit to me should I pursue a specialist ^??[View Answers]

What type of degree would I need?0Lissa2012-11-06 07:03:21
Hello, I'm hoping to major in Animal Reproductive Physiology, but I'm not sure which degree would be the best level too complete at. I would very much rather to work hands on, rather then in the laboratory, as in, physically going out there and testing and inseminating the animals myself, instead of sitting at the side and making charts, etc. Could I do this with a bachelors or masters? Or do I absolutely need a Doctors degree for this? Does it help any that i've had plenty of hands on experience in doing such? I grew up on a ranch/farm where we inseminated our cows and such. I'm still young, 18, so I know there's still plenty of time, and I am pulling a double major in Clinical Psychology so I do have something to fall back on. But it would mean the world if you could lend me a nugget of knowledge :)) Please and Thank you! As an added note, I'm attending Sul Ross State University in Alpine, TX. if that's any help.[View Answers]
GPA of 3.39, sophomore, want to get into a Clinical Psyc PhD program?0kmk2012-11-06 06:26:04
I'm currently freaking out but I need to be slapped more with reality for more motivation... I'm a Sophomore in college, Psychology/French minor and have a GPA of 3.39. However, this last semester (Spring, Sophomore) I may have done worse due to relationship issues and this really difficult class I took that I didn't bring myself to drop out of. I really want to study depression and substance abuse and am currently entering a research lab for the next two years (this would make a total of 6 semester working in labs) for clinical psychology (other two were cognitive psychology/neuroscience) dealing with the topic. I'm planning to write a scholarly paper for it and also planning to volunteer tons during the summer. I'm studying for the GRE from now. I'm very nervous about the competition but I want to succeed, I want at least a 3.8 GPA to be more competitive but I feel like I will never make it. Any tips/suggestions?[View Answers]

What's better?...Psychology or Criminology Undergraduate?!?0Bria2012-11-06 05:15:53
Hey there, I'm applying to uni this year &set my sites on either psychology or criminology. Could anyone give me some advice to which one is better in the long haul in terms of salary, job satisfaction, benefits and holidays, working environments, what's harder? I will be carrying on my degree for a master's and possibly doctorate. But I think I'd just stick with the master's. If I went into psychology, I'd probably be a clinical psychologist, if I did criminology I'd probably work in the social justice system or something. Which one is better long term??? Which one is harder of the two as well? Is criminology really extremely depressing? I don't mind that stuff too much. Does anyone have any experiance in the two undergrade degrees and work experiances in both? Thanks![View Answers]
Psychiatric nursing dissertation topics?0Jordan Smith2012-11-06 04:28:50
I'm going into college but only have one chance to choose my major: I'm stuck between getting a PhD in clinical psychology or advanced psychiatric nursing. I'm basing my decision on whether or not I'd be able to handle a dissertation in each. Is nursing exclusive to a nurse-patient relationship, or nurse-whatever relationships? Or is it possible to focus entirely on research of for example, the effect of mental illness on one's behaviour or vice versa? (should that be saved for a psych dissertation?)[View Answers]
Confused about AS/A Level Choices?0El2012-11-06 04:28:01
Hello (: I've recieved my GCSE results and I'm very happy. My results were: A* in English Language A in English Literature, Maths, Irish, Drama, Music &ICT B in Double Award Science &Religion. I'd be interested in a career in Speech Therapy, Clinical Psychology or teaching English and Drama. I had planned on taking Psychology, but that has become unavailable at my school. I know biology would be a good one to take but it was one of my worst marks (53/100). I'd love you to suggest what you think my fourth choice at A Level should be. There's a wide range available at my school. Thanks in advance.[View Answers]

Is clinical psychology a good career choice?0Marshal2012-11-06 04:15:06
A few people have told me that psychology courses at uni are "Mickey Mouse" courses, basically meaning that they don't really require any work and that psychologists are not as valued as psyciatrists. I strongly disagree with that, but I tend to take these things to heart when people say them. I've had a positive mindset about this career choice to date and I don't want that to change so all I really need is some encouragement or maybe some sucess stories. Thanks.[View Answers]

After college I want to get my masters and my psy.d so I can be a clinical psychologist. I know I will be in school for a while, but I really want to help people and psychology really interests me. But there is a problem. I sing and I am involved with musical theatre. I still want t be able to perform or teach. Will I still have time to do this with a career as a clinical psychologist?[View Answers]
