What Do You Think of a Person that Had a DUI at age 19?0iormares2012-11-06 05:57:01
I was convicted of DUI at age 19. I started drinking when I went off to college. I was raped and my boyfriend at the time called me a whore and didn't believe that I was raped. The attacker told everyone it was consensual I was called a slut and whore by all these people I didn't know. I started drinking to cope... Anyways, I know that in no way excuses what I did. I feel terrible. I think about it every day. I wish I could go back in time. However, I am not a senior in college and have a 3.8. I am going to apply to a PhD program in clinical psychology/women's studies so I can help rape victims and other various people with mental health issues. Anyways, is my life over because I had a DUI at 19?I am so ashamed about it.[View Answers]

Boston University Online Master's Degree Info Needed.?0Looking for someone to check my answer2012-11-06 04:12:55
I have a Bachelor's Degree from Excelsior College, which is a non-competitive college in up-state New York. My Degree is in Liberal Science, and most of my courses are in Criminal Justice and Psychology. My GPA is a 3.29, and I have also been in the Coast Guard for 7 years. How difficult would it be for me to get into the online Master's Degree program for Criminal Justice at Boston University? I know BU is a top school, and I am concerned about the school I received my Bachelor's Degree at not being up to par. I think my Coast Guard experience will help, but I am unsure. Any insight would be great. Thank you.[View Answers]
Can one go directly from getting a Bachelor of Science in Psychology to a Psy.D. program?0Julia Miller2012-11-06 02:46:41
I'm an awesome student and if I do as well in college as I'm doing now in high school I'm sure my GPA will be 3.75 or higher. Could I go from a B.S. directly to a Psy.D. program just with a high GPA, or would I probably still have no chance?[View Answers]

What are the pro's and con's of a PsyD in Clinical Psychology vs a M.S.W. with a L.C.S.W?0sloth2012-11-06 00:22:50
I'm coming up on my senior year, I'm getting a B.S. with a minor in Psych. I really want to work with mental health, preferably in my own practice. I know its 5 years for the PsyD and at least 100k. The M.S.W is only 2 years (plus an extra 1 1/2 or so for the L.C.S.W) and about 40k. I'm going to be 22 when I start these programs and I want to be able to settle down and AFFORD kids. 100k and 5 years is a LOT of commitment, especialy when most PsyDs dont come with 20k research internships. So far all I have found is some 4k clinical internships. I want to counsel people, to work with their anxiety and self esteem, to be able to diagnose and create treatment plans. And I'm certainly not opposed to working in group or clinic settings. I'm terribly worried about paying for college, i'm terrible at scholarship writing and my parents make enough money to limit financial aid, but they certainly are not going to pay for it. I'm so unsure as to which program to choose. M.S.W. certainly seems quicker and cheaper, but will it allow me to do what I want? I'd love the opinions of any M.S.W.s or PsyDs. How did you make your decision?[View Answers]
How to get into Acting school when you don't have any experience as an entertainer?0Alihaa2012-11-05 20:47:45
I'm trying to get into NYU for Acting. I'm in a community college right now. My major is Liberal Arts with a Psychology option. I don't want to finish that off. I want to get into acting right now. My school doesn't have an acting option so what should I do? I don't know what the requirements to get into NYU Acting program but I suppose you should at least have some experience. I don't have any at all. Can someone give me some insight? I just turned 23 today and realized I should chase after my dreams. If there is anything I have left in my life; they are my dreams. My major was originally nursing, because I decided to be more realistic about life. so while I was in school for nursing I got my CNA license. I worked at a hospital this summer and I hated it. I cried and went through a lot of health difficulties dealing with stress. Still am. I can't see myself being anything else. People have failed me, friends, family even my jobs. But God never does. I got closer to him this fall as I started going to church every Sunday. I just feel like if I go for my dreams I'll be successful. Don't know if I'll make it but I want to try. I'm aiming for hollywood. ;)[View Answers]
What are my chances of getting accepted to this Medical School Program?0lam2012-11-05 19:20:27
I'm planning on applying to this really competitive medical school program at my college. It's so you can get accepted to med school your junior year and you don't have to take the MCAT. They strongly recommend a 29 ACT and a 3.8 GPA. My stats: I have 4.0 GPA now and am doing all I can to maintain it. I am doing research this summer with the same medical school I plan on applying to. I am a part of a volunteer organization for just freshman. I plan on starting a volunteering club at my school...it's a part of a national organization and am working on getting it started now. I'm double majoring in Psychology and Biology. I am in the Honors Program BUT: I have one W on my transcript already (but am making sure it's the only one) The reason I withdrew was because I had 20 credit hours and I couldn't handle this really intense Honors Biology Lab but I'm taking a regular biology lab in the summer. AND...I only got a 28 on my ACT :( What are my chances...I'm only a freshman now, I have until my junior year to apply[View Answers]
Do you know anyone who has gotten into a Master's Program in International Relations without studying abroad?0Michalea2012-11-05 16:20:54
I am getting my BA in Psychology, but want to go in a different direction for my masters. I am mainly considering MPAs because I eventually want to work in government/with an agency, and I feel like I can probably get accepted even with a BA in Psychology. However, my main interest is in International Relations. The problem is that I was financially unable to study abroad. Applying to IR programsis tempting for me, but doing that means that I would have to choose between programs at the same schools. I attend a fairly pricey private college (35k/year) on nearly full scholarship, but the intl scholarships available still required me to pay $2000-3000 out of pocket to study abroad. That would have essentially meant that my mother had no lights and no food. Even with jobs, as a full time student also supporting my disabled mother - I was unable to even afford a plane ticket. Have you heard of anyone getting into a program like this WITHOUT international experience? Should I just go for the MPA and give up on it for a while? My GPA is 3.7 out of 4.0 and as this is my last year, I expect to top out at 3.8. Advice?[View Answers]
How hard is it to switch your major to nursing?0Donnice2012-11-05 15:05:38
I know it's relatively easy to switch majors and many people do it, but I'm wondering if nursing's different because it's a separate program. As of right now I applied to colleges as a psychology major and I'm still flip flopping between majoring in psychology and majoring in nursing, but I applied as a psychology major because nursing programs are more selective and harder to get into. I'm worried that, if I want to change my major once I'm in school, I won't get into the nursing program at the school I'm already attending. Is it still hard to get into the nursing program once you're already at that school? Will they really deny someone who has decent grades?[View Answers]
How can I become motivated and passionate about something?0Jeet2012-11-05 14:39:17
I am 20 years old, and I have been depressed and anxious for a long time. I also believe that I might have Avoidant Personality Disorder. I don't want to take drugs, and I don't feel like there is any point to artificially making myself feel happy if my life still isn't going to amount to anything. I am in college now, and as a junior, I still don't know what I want to do in terms of a career. One week I'll be set on something, and the next week it'll be something else. I've just decided to major in Psychology and to try to get into a PhD program, as I want to do something to help other people in a field that I know a lot about. My problem is that I have a lot of social anxiety and am unable to pass any job interviews. Sometimes I feel like this problem will never go away, and I decide that I want to just quit college and get a full time job doing something boring like dishwashing, and use video games as my escape for the rest of my life. I can't imagine myself ever having a career or being in a position where I can be comfortable with myself. And when I look back on times in my life, I realize that I could have done a lot of things to improve my situation and outlook on life. For example, I've been writing a novel for years now. I have told several people the idea of the novel, and they have been asking about it since then because they find it interesting. You'd think this would be a good source of motivation, right? Well, I've written a total of three paragraphs, because I find myself unable to become passionate about the story or anything at all. Without passion, I have no motivation. Instead of going out and meeting people, exercising, and doing all the things that normal people like to do, I sit around in my dorm and worry. Instead of writing that novel, I spend my free time playing an online game where I literally just click on a monkey over and over again for hours on end to steal all of its money. I was wondering if anyone had any advice on becoming passionate and motivated about something. I'd appreciate it if you don't answer if you're just going to tell me: -To go to a doctor or any type of counselor -To call the suicide hotline (I am not suicidal) -That I am any sort of evil or inconsiderate person for asking this question Thanks in advance :)[View Answers]

Fields in Psychology that make the most money with just a Master's Degree?0Jacy2012-11-05 09:09:39
I'm a Junior in college and I've been reading about certain grad school programs. I think I'm finally getting an idea of what I wanna do with a Master's degree. I know for sure I don't want anything higher than that. The fields I'm most interested in are Clinical Psychology, Clinical Social Work, Mental Health Counseling, and Marriage and Family Counseling. Pretty much anything that involves one on one therapy sessions with patients who either have disorders of some kind or patients who just feel a bit overwhelmed. I keep looking for which field may pay the most and best fits my interest, but there are no websites that give me straight forward answers about salary. Can anyone help? I'm really not interested in I.O. Psychology so that's not an option for me. I know money shouldn't matter as long as I'm happy with what I'm doing, but to be honest what's the point in accumulating so much debt if I'm gonna be broke and struggling like my parents? I don't want a fortune once I graduate grad school, but I wanna know which fields will lead to a better salary as time goes on. Maybe something that starts in the 40,000's and eventually goes up to about 65,000 or something.[View Answers]
I can't have a part time job while I'm at college. How can I make money?0Nico2012-11-05 05:32:13
I'm a full time student at university (I take the maximum 18 credits every semester) and I am graduating in a year and a half. My parents and I both agree that I should not have a job during the school year because I need to maintain a 3.8 GPA to go on to grad school in the psychology field. At my school, the only students who can work on campus are those students in the work study federal loan program, which I am not in, so a 10 hr/week on-campus job is not possible unfortunately. The thing is, I have to pay for everything... text books, rent, cable, and electric at my apartment, and food so making some kind of money would be really ideal. How do I do it without a job though? What can I do? I thought about tutoring, but again, that's an on-campus job for work study students :\[View Answers]

I don't know what to do with my life?0Lunn2012-11-05 01:41:27
I seriously don't know what to do with my life. I have been in college for three years and I start state this fall and don't know what to major in. I looked into nursing, too squeamish to do that, business seems SOO boring, I hate math and science with an ultimate passion so medicine is a no. I have always loved psychology and want to work with individuals who have eating disorders because I have had an eating disorder and want to help people with it. It's so much schooling though to become a clinical psychologist and my parents make too much for financial aid and I would need tons of science classes. I really want a job that has a starting pay of around 50,000-60,000. I've been looking into dental hygiene but its a lot of science classes and I wouldn't have a bachelors because its through a program. What should I do? I've been researching career options forever. Counselors weren't much help either.[View Answers]
How man of these colleges will I get into??? Help!?0Danisha2012-11-05 01:07:18
So, now that all of my applications are in, I was wondering what people think my chances are at the schools I applied to. The schools I applied to are: 1.Amherst College 2.SUNY Binghamton 3.Boston University 4.Bucknell 5.Carnegie Mellon 6.Cornell 7.Duke 8.SUNY Geneseo 9.Johns Hopkins 10.Northeastern 11.RPI 12.SUNY Stony Brook 13.Tufts 14.WPI 15.Yale Yes I know, long list... Amherst and Yale were basically to please my insane dad who thinks I can get in anywhere, they're, as far as I'm concerned, huge huge reaches. My Stats: 92 GPA unweighted Rank in Class: 25 SAT scores: 2130 (750 critical reading, 690 on both math and writing) ACT: 33 composite (33 math and english, 35 reading, 30 science) Accelerated Classes: Honors- English 9H, English 10H, English 11H, Biology 9H, Chemistry 10H, Global History 9H AP- European History, U.S. History, Calculus BC, English Literature IB- Mathematics SL, Physics SL, Psychology SL, History of the Americas HL, Biology HL Extracurriculars: Soccer 9th and 10th grade, Newspaper Club Editor, part of the school peer mediator program (basically, the students in my grade picked a few people who they felt would best help solve conflicts, and I was one of them... we do annual clinics and occasionally have like counseling type things), uhh... thats about it in terms of clubs/sports Community Service: mostly through my church and some through my town's chamber of commerce, about 80 hours in total Work Experience: I've worked since freshman year, averaging 20-30 hrs a week depending on if it was summer of during school. I worked in a restaurant until summer of 2008, when it closed, then worked on a farm until it closed for the winter, usually 15-20 hrs a week. Recommendations: Of course I'm not really sure how they turned out, but from what I can surmise they were really good recommendations, from my math teacher (I had IB math with him last yr and now Calc) and an english teacher i had in 9th and 11th grade. My counselor doesnt seem to know anybody, but I take the most rigorous courses I can short of the IB diploma and she seems to like me, so I think I got a good recommendation from her as well. Application Essay: I put so many hours into this damn thing, and I think its pretty amazing, to be honest. So yeah, there's me in a nutshell. What are my chances at these schools? I've been applying primarily to engineering schools at each university. As of now, my #1 is Tufts. Thanks so much in advance!![View Answers]

i want a career in psychology. although i think i am a bit young to decided what specific area or field to go into in psychology..... i want to know if their are any programs, or anything around Washington, D.C. for 10th graders in psychology......... (i live two hours a way from their... in around salisbury, maryland... i can go to ocean city or fruit land... probably not farther than Washington, D.C.) not anything too hardcore, but i would like all suggestions i'm in high school (i'm in biology honors {can't take a.p. bio. till 11h grade}, and am taking philosophy next year, along with possibly a.p. government) P.S. i think i'm too young to do anything in psychology until i apply for college and i want to do something else (i volunteer at my local hospital/ i live in a "small" town) (i would prefer a winter internship!!!!!!!!!!)
