Where can I go to college?0Please help Ms.sue2012-11-06 06:52:02
I live in Georgia, so I am considering UGA and Ga Tech as my main two applications. my GPA is rather low, 3.4 unweighted, but I have 3 AP courses(3 on US Hist, Calculus AB/BC, and Psychology in progress) and 6 honors classes. My SAT score is 2120 (780m, 640r, 700w). Not much extracurricular except for a part-time job I've had for 2 years. I'm interested in Biology, Chemistry, and engineering. Both schools have Biochemical engineering programs, UGA is well known for Biochem(notoriously one of their hardest majors) and Ga Tech is an "engineering school". any thoughts? ex:I actually live in Athens, so for UGA I wouldn't have to worry about room/board.[View Answers]

University of Washington or University of Puget Sound?0Onlin Bus2012-11-04 18:48:05
I'm currently in community college in Washington and would like to transfer to either U of Washington or U of Puget Sound. I am a psychology major, and looking at getting a second major in either business or political science. Which school is better for my degree programs? Also I want a diverse campus with professors who care about teaching. I'm also gay, so I would prefer a school with an accepting environment and a strong community of lgbt students. I understand that being a transfer student and missing out on my first years, it will be really hard for me to fit in. Which school will be easier for me to adjust to? Which school do you think is best for me? Thank you! Also, do you think I have completely ruined this part of my life by attending community college first? I have been really depressed seeing all my friends go off to school, making new friends, etc. I mean, I'm used to living alone so that part of it isn't a big deal to me. Is this "college experience" everyone talks about basically alcohol, partying, drugs, and sex? Because if that's all I'm missing out on, then I don't care haha. I am disappointed I'm missing out on bonding with classmates though :( Thanks! :)[View Answers]

Can somene revise my admission essay?0Sheilah2012-11-04 12:13:09
An important trait that all successful people have is optimism. This is a trait that I take great pride in. There's been numerous times where I didn't quite get the results I desired. I know that everything happens for a reason and we can only learn from our mistakes.Self-motivation is also another one of my strenghts. I know that you are not always going to have a role model to teach you everything you need to learn. It's important to be independant and have a mind of my own. My parents were what I would call a little on the "soft side". They were perfectly satisfied with me just graduating with basically a 2.0GPA. I on the other hand was disappointed and was motivated to prove myself that I can be better than that. I currently have a 3.67GPA in college, with this past semester making straight A's. I have never made straight A's before. So it came as a shock to me that of all places I made straight A's in college. It motivated me, and I feel like I'm just now touching the surface of my potiential. Than again not everyone is perfect. I have my fair number of weaknesses. I do have my tendecies of getting discourage when I recieve bad results. Education has become my 1st priority, and when I getbad results it feels like the end of the world. A way I can overcome this is by consistently working hard to the point where I know my capabilities. If I know my worth a bad result will not discourage me as much mentally. I also have a mediocre track record. It has affected me in a couple of ways already. I applied to a couple of colleges after high school, and didn't get in. The only way I see myself overcoming this is to keep building up a good resume to the point that my high school records are less important. Towards the end of my high school life, I got a little bit distracted. I just started working at McDonalds, and time management was something new to me. I started losing focus and as a result my grades started to suffer a bit. I was able to graduate, but again my job was taking up alot of my time. When it came time to take a placement test I scored pretty badly. I took remedial courses, and was very upset. On the bright side I didn't make anything lower than a B in those course, or any courses for that matter. It was more of me losing my focus, than me being academically challenge. That's something that I'm able to work with. I always intended to go to a 4 year school, but I need somewhere to prepare me maturity wise. I decided to enroll at Delgado Community College. Spending three semesters there I am making the transition from high school life to College life. At Delgado I make every effort to maximize all the possible resources that is offered to me. One thing I fell in love with was the libary. When i'm there I feel nice and relax and I look for what school work I can get done. I have done my research on this school and I fell in love with was the campus. I love how ULL intends to make the campus bigger in Fall 2012. I also read that it's one of the best business schools in the state, being able to learn in the business program would be such an honor to me. I hold myself to a high standard and anything lower than a 4 year degree will be a faliure in my book. Also you can never have to much knowledge. I love to be multi talented on many things and One degree is not what I envision. I planned on working on muiltple degrees, one of them being a degree in psychology. It's a course that I have a strong interest for, and I figured why not get an education for it. After attending so many low budget schools where I've been unhappy, being admitted to UL would be a previlage that I will not take for granted. They not really asking for an essay more of a brief statement in paragraph from.[View Answers]
What are my chances of getting into Cornell University?0Derby2012-11-04 11:40:43
Of all the Ivy League schools, Cornell is my absolute number one choice of the eight. Here are some facts about me: Male, 16 years old, Junior in HS, African American CLASSES; I do all the Honors, AP, yada yada yada FRESHMAN YEAR: Honors English 9, Honors Geometry, Honors Biology, Honors Modern World History, Honors Spanish 2, Art 1 (APs aren't offered to freshman at my school) SOPHOMORE YEAR: Honors Trig/Precalc, Accounting I (parents forced me to take it:P), Honors Spanish 3, Honors English 10, Honors Chemistry, AP Government &Politics (3 on the AP test) JUNIOR YEAR (now): AP US History, AP English (Lang &Comp), AP Calculus AB, Honors Spanish 4, Honors Physics (I would've taken AP Physics, but I didn't have room for the Lab Period because I don't have any tech credits) SENIOR YEAR (what I plan to take next year): AP Calculus BC, AP English (Lit &Comp), AP Psychology, AP Spanish 5, AP Chemistry or AP Biology (leaning more towards Biology) *I'm in the Symphonic and Marching Band, so that gets added to my freshman, junior, and senior year schedules. 4.4 GPA as of the end of my sophomore year; my GPA has never dropped below a 4.0 since my freshman year EXTRACURRICULARS: Marching Band (flute, piccolo) Key Club (Awards Historian) Academic Team ACE Mentoring Program (Architecture, Construction, and Engineering Club) Debate Team Leo Club Rock n' Roll Revival (musical production at my school; we give 8 two hour shows over two weeks) SATS: I plan on taking the SAT Critical Reading, Writing, and Mathematics in the spring. I also plan on taking 4 or 5 subject tests. My goal is at least 2000 overall and over 700 on each subject test. COMMUNITY SERVICE: Between 110-120 hours. I know it could be WAY higher and I WANT it way higher. By the way, Leo Club and Key Club are community service organizations. AWARDS AND HONORS: Presidential Award Spanish Student of the Year (Sophomore Year: 2011-2012) National Honor Society Spanish Honor Society Mu Alpha Theta (Math Honor Society) All Shore Band (Freshman Year: 2010-2011) *Auditioning for AllState Band this year and next Uhhhherrrrr....that's basically it! Oh yeah, and I've been employed with a pediatric facility the past two summers. As far as my majors go, I plan on double majoring in either Neurology and Spanish, or Architecture and Spanish. I also want to minor in flute and/or musical performance. I'm planning on applying to Johns Hopkins as well as the Peabody Institute (Neurology and Music) if architecture doesn't work out. I will also be applying to numerous other colleges and universities, not just Cornell and JHU. They just happen to be my top two preferences. Please!! I would just like some advice on how to get into the school of my dreams!! I know the competition is super competitive, but hey, I mean.....SOMEONE has to get in, right? I want that to be me.I know I might sound a little cocky with this question, but I have to be. I want to show this school, and everyone else, that I'm not just another stereotypical black kid in America. I want to show them I'm special and will do whatever it takes to get into this prestigious institution. Any information would be greatly appreciated!! Thanks!:)[View Answers]
Nursing school and GPA?0ceri-anne2012-11-04 09:58:41
I am in school at east Tennessee state university , I messed up my first semester and got a C in A&P 1 . I also took some college courses while in high-school and got a couple of C's I have now retaken those classes and have a B in one and am working towards an A in the other. My advisory told me even if I make all A's this semester ( I am taking A&P 2, history 2, remidal math where I did not do average on my act for math, and art history 2, and psychology. I have an A in all of those classes except A&P 2 will most likely be a B. My advisor said even if I made all A's this semester the best I could do would be a 3.2. Well as far as I know technically you only have to have a 3.0 GPA, but the nursing school at ETSU the lowest they are going to take Spring of 2012 will be 3.6 GPA. I will apply for nursing school Fall of 2011 and if accepted I will begin nursing school in Spring of 2012 as I will have my microbiology and prob and stats math out of the way in Fall of 2011. I plan on taking A&P 1 over this summer and getting an A or a B. Still though my adviser says I will only have a 3.2. What am I suppose to do with a 3.2 ? I want to go into the nursing field. I hear you can be a LPN for 1 year and get straight into RN school. Does anyone know of any nursing programs on the east coast that accept lower GPA's like mine? I live in Tennessee so I would like to stay close to home, but this really has me worried as I have wedding plans as soon as I graduate. Help please? I am in a 4 year program but an willing to do a 2 year.[View Answers]

Which college should I choose: Pomona or Claremont Mckenna?0tyniejah2012-11-04 08:35:54
I really want to go to a Claremont college, but I can't decide between Pomona or Claremont Mckenna. I'll probably apply to both just in case, but I'm just not sure! I want to major in Psychology, but I don't know which school would be better for that. I like the politics focus of CMC, the small school feel, and the emphasis on career, but I've heard it's huge on partying and I'm not sure I like that. Does Pomona have a better psych program, and is there less excessive partying? Or should I go with CMC?[View Answers]
What would you do if you were me (read details)?0USC2012-11-04 08:32:11
So I have a bunch to pre requisites class I need to take to get into a Nursing Program at UCI. I'm going in as a transfer so these are the majority of the classes I will be taking: General Chemistry with laboratories (1 Year) Basic Statistics DNA Genetics Biochemistry Sociology Philosophy Public Health Organic Chemistry Psychology Microbiology Human Physiology Human Anatomy (Plus Lab) But I also have other classes I need to take like English, Foreign Language, Pre Requisites classes before I can take the classes for Nursing Program, etcc... How would you spread all these classes out, like how many classes in a semester kinda thing? I was also thinking taking classes in the summer (like math, and a few science) but I saw on a website for UC system, it said "You are a transfer student if you enrolled in a regular session at a college or university after high school. (Summer sessions don't count.)" Does that mean I can't take classes in the summer?[View Answers]

What are acceptable GRE and Subject GRE scores for a Masters program?0krystle2012-11-04 06:25:27
Specifically, psychology and school psychology. I have not taken the psych subject test yet, but I am typically not a strong standardized test taker. I have a 3.2 gpa in psych and a 3.4 gpa in a related major (Human development and family studies)... about a 3.083 cumulative. I have been doing research since my Sophomore year of college, and I have been doing field work with a school psychologist. Please let me know your expertise :-)![View Answers]
