Life at Cornell University?0Jordi2012-11-05 02:11:03
So I got accepted into Cornell under the early decision program. This basically means that I'm going there. I applied to CALS (college of agriculture and life sciences), and will probably major in neurobiology or psychology(if they let me transfer into liberal arts), basically I will be doing pre-med stuff. My question is, has anyone here gone to Cornell? What is life there like. How are the dorms? Did you feel any of the Ivy League snobiness that people are always telling me about? Any other information about going there would be great :)[View Answers]
Why I want to volunteer, how does this sound?0Shaba-laba-ding-dong2012-11-05 02:05:02
I am a highly original, highly creative person who always thinks outside of the box I have a college equivalent diplom in visual arts in the enhanced program at the Mayfield and had my artwork featured in the mayfield newspaer where I was chief editor and have been working towards writing my own book on practical philosophy for the non-religious spiritualist. It is a guiding mainframe of principles that one should week to live by. I have a higher I.Q. than most surgeons. I studied psychology and english at the university of toronto and am very familiar with mental illness as it has effected members of my immediate family, along with intellectual handicaps and epilepsy... I am deeply analytical about social and psyochological issues effecting human nature, and believe that our capacity as human beings is maximized when we engage ourselves in the drama of other people's lives and help them to acheive their goals. I am extremely sympathetic and compassionate individual who never looks down or despises a homeless or unemployed person that I see on the street. I believe that all life and existence is beautiful and that it is our duty to both see and nurture the beauty of life and in our surroundings. I seek at all times to be inspired, enlightened and envisioned. I believe that every human has value and dignity, that respect is something we should give everybody and not just the ones that earned it, that we are not fully human until we put ourselves in other people's shoes, and that nobody should ever be rejected or discriminated against. I want to eventually work in an orphanage in south Africa or get involved in other humanitarian projects. The issues that touches me more deeply than anything else is poverty, isolation, personal weakness, struggle and confusion and I believe I must alleviate these situations to some degree in order to fulfill my purpose on earth. Bold, outspoken, and courageously transparent I would be very honored, and humbled if you choose me to volunteer for your cause.[View Answers]
What AP test should I self-study for?0just wondering2012-11-04 06:16:02
I am currently taking AP spanish and dropped AP bio because of a program that would allow me to take the biology college course my junior year (shorter time, definite college and high school credit). I have a weighted GPA of a 4.5 and my FAVE FAVE FAVE subject is history. it comes easy to me so studying wont be hard. the thing is, my school lacks history AP classes. what i planned on doing was starting a self study now and taking the test next year, so that i have time to read and study. Right now, i'm stuck between two choices: AP Euro and AP Gov. Here's my situation: I ADORE the concept of ap european history, and when i found out my school didnt have it i was severly disappointed. i would take it just because i would love the subject, but for no career reason. However, my backup major behind psychology (taking AP psych senior year) is political science, which calls for AP Gov. I would take it, it's just that I don't know how difficult it is and if i'm prepared. For AP euro, i would have a good background because in my spare time i would read about european history for fun. The only background I have for US gov is a 4th grade learning about executive, legislative, and judicial branch. i am VERY vague on how the government works but i also terribly enjoy the idea of politics. Soo, i'm really basing my choice on difficulty, my preparedness, interest, and background on both subjects. which one should i take?? thankss[View Answers]

I know someone out there has had and RE-4 code changed.?0Janina2012-11-04 01:16:18
I was discharged in 2004 with an entry level seperation and an RE-4 code. BAsically it said it was for a pre-existing depressive disorder. Long story short. It was found out that I had been to a counselor (required to be accepted into psychology program in college), so I had to go to the Recruit Evaluation Unit. I guess since I answered honestly-- I missed my family and no I was not sleeping in boot camp like I did at home (a given I thought) they determined I was depressed. I would really like to get back in. I have a letter from the counselor I saw and he states specifically that I was not depressed nor did I fit any of the criteria for having a depressive disorder.[View Answers]

I'm a sophomore and I want to get into an Ivy League (pref. I did Junior Varsity Lacrosse for the past two years, volunteer for a community volunteer program, American Field Service Club (deal with and go around with foreign exchange students in our school), I was Homeroom Representative in Student Congress in 9th grade, I am in the French Club Executive Board, and I am planning to run for an office position in American Field Service this year, and I want to start a Model UN (debate competition club) at my school this year. I am also planning to join Yearbook Committees. I learn Vocal Music and Dance (my country's style for both classes). I was asked to skip a level in my Dance class also. My weighted GPA is more than a 4.0 With this, can I get accepted into Yale or any Ivy League (I wanna do medicine after my undergrad years at the same college). Thanks for ALL your help!!:) BTW: I'm not trying to brag, I just want an honest answer![View Answers]

The more selective schools I am applying to are UC Berkeley, Whitman College, Pitzer College, and Pomona College. My high school has a scattergram on their website displaying the GPAs and SAT scores of the freshman that were admitted, but I want other opinions. Here's a little bit about me: Unweighted GPA: 3.59 Weighted GPA: 3.85 SAT Scores: Verbal: 650 Math: 650 Writing: 680 (I am retaking the test tomorrow. I expect to improve by about 50-100 points.) Extra Curricular Activities: - 4 years of high school baseball (2 years of varsity) - all academic team for baseball junior year (expect to do the same when the season comes this year) - part of a program called teen volunteers in action for 6 years (over a hundred hours of community service) - published poetry in my school literary magazine - play bass guitar in a performing rock band that has played paid gigs and benefit gigs Strengths: -pacific islander (i think that has something to do with their decision) -i have excelled in humanities AP Classes: English Lang., Psychology, English Lit., Government, Economics, Art History[View Answers]
How do you research/evaluate a college's academics?0Stacy H2012-11-03 21:21:25
So, I want to major in psychology in college with a lot of biology as well (maybe even double major?). So my question is, how do you tell how good a science program at a college is? Their site isn't exactly going to tell you, "we don't really care about biology that much here... all OUR students are actors and dancers". But colleges are always better in some areas than others, so how do you get a sense of that? Are there any reliable sites that review a college's strong and weak points? A list of the top colleges for such-and-such isn't really helpful, because none of the colleges I'm looking at are exactly renowned for a certain department, and they don't seem to make it on those lists.[View Answers]
Could I get into brown?0Melvin2012-11-03 21:02:15

I have at least a 4.0 gpa unweighted this year I'm in : AP US History, AP Literature, Honors Precalc, Honors Latin, Wind Ensemble, physics, Advanced Video &Moviemaking I've always taken honors courses I've been in wind ensemble all four years (I'm the only clarinet in my grade who has gotten in- it's the top band) I have auditioned for NYSSMA ( a selective All County band program) since 4th grade, and the last couple of years I have received over a 90 on level 6 pieces (highest level- college level) and got accepted to All State I have played on a very good soccer team since probably 3rd grade and I really love it. I played piano for a couple years I have been on the school track them the past couple of years I am in national honors society I am GOING to take the ACTs and hope to get a 32ish I went to a Sarah Lawrence writing program this summer I really love to write and it is what I do best. I think I could write a very unique and amazing admissions essay. I really want to do archaeology, egyptology as well as creative writing in college. I'm looking for an archaeology program to do over the summer for a week or two, but its hard to find anything. Next year I am taking AP Psychology, AP Latin, AP Language, writers orgins, wind ensemble, and two half year courses to show that I am interested in archaeology: Paleontology and Geology, and Intro to Anthropology. I work at a camp over the summer, did community service for national honors society, have won some moviemaking awards and english awards, etc.... Of course I'm going to apply to other schools as well, but I have fallen in love with Brown. i thought that it would make me a little unique that I'm interested in such unusual areas of study: I rarely come across anyone who wants to do egyptology in college.[View Answers]

I'm 25 have a bachelor's degree in Psychology. The college I went to offers a second-degree BSN program for people that already have a bachelor's. I have an MIP (minor in possession of alcohol) conviction from age 18 and a DUI from age 19. I consulted lawyers and in my state there is NO possibility of expungement so I will have these convictions on my record for life. PLEASE! I need help finding the right California Community College for me!!!?0chris342012-11-03 19:39:10
I am going to community college in California this fall, and I desperately need help to find out which is right for me. I lived in San Jose last year working for a nonprofit and then moved away to go to private college in Illinois. I have decided to go back to California to go to a community college for 2 years, and then transfer to a UC. I am a very good student--intelligent, motivated, and hard-working. I earned a 3.9 GPA at the college I attended last fall. Here are the criteria I have for the schools you might suggest: -Strong, solid programs in Social Work, Anthropology, Latino Studies, Education, English, Psychology, or Music (esp. Voice) Performance. -I am hoping to transfer to any of the following UC's: Berkeley, Santa Barbara, Santa Cruz. -*PREFERABLY* this community college would be located in the Bay Area, EXCEPT San Jose. Near public transportation, such as the BART, would be ideal. I would not like to go to college anywhere south of Santa Barbara (but Santa Barbara would be fine, too.) -No larger than 20,000 students but no smaller than 2,500 students. If you have any particular knowledge of the community colleges in California, your help would be greatly appreciated. I have already done some research on the Internet through the schools' websites, but they're all advertising for their own schools, so it's tough to get unbiased information. I am hoping to register ASAP and no later than the end of April. It's currently March 28. THANK YOU![View Answers]
What to do about useless bachelors degree?0babe2012-11-03 18:54:38
Like many young adults, I have a bachelors degree and do not use it. In fact, I don't care to pursue it further with graduate school. I have a degree in Psychology. I currently work as a glorified receptionist. It's fine for the time being, it pays the bills, but honestly I want some challenging and I want what every wants- a bigger paycheck. I live in Chicago currently and I've been looking into returning to school. However, is my only option to start all over and begin another 4 year degree? I am interested in 2 things here: making a modest amount (let's say 45k plus) and I'd like to work a somewhat "normal" schedule with weekends off preferred. I've looked into health care, but there goes a normal schedule and I've looked into accounting but I just do not want to dive into another 4 years for a bachelors. Any suggestions? Any colleges or programs for those who want to make a career jump and have a bachelors that doesn't correspond into the next career? I should add that money is tight. Does financial aid provide more aid if you go back for another bachelor degree? Or do they provide support if you get a certificate or an associates? I heard they do not provide money for "back pedalling."[View Answers]

Which of these colleges is the best?0lauren<32012-11-03 17:31:23
I am going to be a junior, so I have started researching colleges. I plan on being an Occupational Therapist. I will get my Bachelor's Degree in Psychology and Master's in OT, unless the school's program does not allow that (I have no problem with that). There are a few schools with OT programs that I am really looking into. I live in New Jersey and am planning to either stay in state (not too many options there) or going to NY or PA. My choice universities so far are: Duquesne University (has a five year OT program, my main choice), Kean University, Alvernia University, and SUNY at Buffalo. I am not a party goer at all, and I really wouldn't like to attend a school where the students are all about partying. I heard Kean is a party school, true or false? I also want very structured academics and teachers that care about the students. Which school is best?[View Answers]

Need help from any English majors or graduates please!?0maeem2012-11-03 17:03:07
I'm doubling majoring in English and psychology. Not sure specifically what I want to do. For English I'm completely clueless, I know I don't want to be a teacher. Am I suppose to just get a general English degree for my bachelors and masters. I just like literature that's why I don't want to just give it up and stick only to psychology, but I feel like it's a dead end. Are there any specific programs in English that aren't for teachers? I'm a junior in college, attuning university of Michigan, but I'm thinking of transferring to Wayne state university. Thanks for your help.[View Answers]
