Can I legally act as a counselor in California even though I have no psychology license?1Jaco2016-07-13 23:32:15
I want to start working as the equivalent of a therapist -- helping people with their typical domestic neuroses such as marriage, family, parenting, loneliness, etc. I don't have and don't have plans to get a psychology degree, nor do I want to be an MFCC or social worker. I just want to start. I have always helped people well in friendships and family life, and I intend to screen clients so that I am only working with people who are a good match. I was raised in a psychologist family, have gone to a lot of therapy, and feel like I know enough to get started. I might learn more if I attended a program, but I don't have the time, money, or energy. Can I simply charge a fee for therapy or counseling, or do I run afoul of legal difficulties? Please note this question is not intended to get your opinion of the likelihood that I will do well at the job, but rather what the legal and professional limitations are. Thank you in advance for any help you can give.[View Answers]

EASY 10 POINTS!!!! ONLY for people that have a degree in psychology/psychologists.?0Jaylen2012-11-05 01:42:33
What was it like to make it through the voyage towards becoming a psychologist? Is it as stressful as people say?Do you enjoy the work?I was thinking about becoming a counseling psychologist..or clinical..I get confused between the two..which is the one that you have your own office and have teens come to your office to tell you their problems?I don't want to deal with criminals or go to schools or anything.I want to be a psychologist because I love trying to figure out people and the way they think, act ,why they act that way,how their personlaities develop ,how they end up with disorders and how to fix them and anything else in that area..I think that falls into social science psychology. So which should I be and is it worth the trouble or studying so so hard???[View Answers]
Is it stupid to major in Psychology?0paulie2012-11-04 18:41:02
I'm a 20 year old college student, and I love Psychology and other life sciences. I spend a lot of time learning about different psychological theories, and I've often envisioned a future where I do research on mental conditions and/or help the people who have them. I enjoy giving people advice and have in the past been told that I have a talent in counseling and should pursue it as a career. When I started community college two years ago, I was quite depressed. I took two courses in Psychology and loved them, but then I heard about what a useless major it was. Not wanting to be unemployed, I just took a bunch of general courses and then decided that I'd major in Genetics when I got to university. While I am good at Biology, I just don't have that same interest or spark of inspiration that comes from Psychology. I know all the catchphrases - "Do what you love," and all of that, but I don't want a degree that I will be unemployed with if I can't get into grad school. Should I just major in something that I can get into a career with and study Psychology as a hobby? Any advice is greatly appreciated.[View Answers]
Is psychology a bad major to keep following? I am 2 years into my undergraduate and I love psychology but...?0Marzi2012-11-04 18:23:19
I know it takes excess schooling to make decent money? I want to do counseling of some sort and its hard to get into grad school in any psychology field. But does anyone know if a degree in clinical social work or an MSW is any good anyways? I am worried about continuing this degree even though I do like it a lot? Any alternatives if you disagree with my major? ANYTHING?[View Answers]

Hi folks. I just graduated with a bachelors degree in psychology, now I am trying to continue in graduate school to become a certified psychologist. If I complete the M.S in general psychology , will I be able to present the state exam (florida) to become licensed, or is that only for students who have finished a PsyD? Please let me know, and if you could include a link for me to read thoroughly that will help a lot. Thanks so much![View Answers]
