Who knows about the SMART grant?0Bhuwan gupta2012-11-06 04:02:41
I just changed my major to biology, this fall will begin my 4th year of college. in the spring, I'm enrolling in an allied health program for medical technology, which is a bachelor of science degree. my gpa is 3.44. I have already been awarded a pell grant for the 08 09 school year for $2800 dollars (about) I guess what i'm asking is, should I be eligible for the smart grant even though I *just* changed my major? It was psychology before. Also, should I talk to my financial aid officer at school and tell them that i changed majors and am now eligible? or should they figure it out on their own?[View Answers]
Going to college out of state?0Milk 2012-11-06 03:06:23
Okay, so this is just a random question. I am living in the midwest and pretty unhappy with my life. I want to live somewhere important. Like, LA or Newyork. I've always been interested in psychology. I've been looking into becoming a forensic psychologist and it looks really interesting to me. I think it might be something I want to do, but I don't want to go to school for 8 years in the midwest. I don't like the feeling of being stuck somewhere I don't like. I know if I moved to somewhere out of state and went to school I'd have to pay out of state. What I want to know is if I moved out of state and went to school for 8 years...without a full time job.... would I be able to afford it? I know I'd have massive college loans to repay after I graduate, but I can't stand the thought of being stuck in the midwest for 8 years...anybody know how the system works?[View Answers]

Financial Aid Problem?0Taleisa2012-11-05 22:03:19
Hey, I'm a high school graduate who is planning to go to college in the spring. I live with my mom and she does not have a job. Everyone tells me that since we are scarce on money I should be eligible for plenty of aid. After filling out my FAFSA it said I may be eligible for a "pell grant" and an "academic competitive grant". I'm 18 and already registered with the Selective Service and I have the college I want to go to recorded in my FAFSA. However, when I went to my college of choice today to register for classes I was surprised to see that they have no information about my FAFSA. After returning home I made sure all of my FAFSA info was correct. I also talked to a financial aid representive to ensure everything was okay. After taking my info and looking at my application he said the only problems he could see is that Selective Service says that I did not register with them yet. I called the number he gave me and talked to a Selective Service reprentative to make sure I sumbited my application correctly a few months earlier, and sure enough I was already registered. So what gives? Does anyone have any idea what the problem might be? General psychology, Precalculus algebra, Precalculus algebra lab, expository writing, and design 1 all come out to a massive $715(that's a lot for me) If community college is this expensive there's no way I'll be able to afford transferring to a university and then medical school without financial aid. I may have to go to spring classes instead of fall since tuition is due in about 4 days. Would there be any problems with obtaining financial aid or being accepted into the school if I wait until then? Thanks in advance for answering all of my questions.[View Answers]
Obama's student loan act, what exactly does it cover?0Lwazi2012-11-05 18:45:29
I'm a second year student for my bachelors in Psychology, I would like to be a psychologist someday, but with most walking away from school with 150-200k in debt I'm terrified of never being able to have a family or home! I was consdering now, doing cosmeteology school since the program is short, that way I could work doing hair and do college part time until I finish so that I won't need to take out so much in loans. My friend told me about Obama's new loan forgiveness act, but how does that apply? I understand the payments will be less and after 20 years loans are forgiven. Does this include private? Also, I saw this isn't in effect until 2014, what happens if I take out loans now then, will they not count?[View Answers]

Can i get financial aid if i'm considered "Adult Enrichment" instead of degree seeking?0barbra2012-11-04 09:19:03
I received my bachelors in psychology in May 2011. I used only grants to pay for it. I decided to change my graduate major to physical therapy and now have to go back to school to get some prerequisite courses finished before I can apply to a program. However, I have been told by my schools financial aid department that since what I am doing is not considered a "degree seeking program" since i'm only getting prereqs, that i don't qualify for any grants or even loans. They consider me "Adult Enrichment". Has anyone else experienced this and did you get any money to help pay for your classes? or does anyone know any loop holes? Thanks :)[View Answers]
Please Help??0jordann2012-11-04 03:19:16
I have about 25k in student loans that I have accumulated over the years. In my state they will repay your loans if you are a teacher, social worker, and police officer, and nurse. I am a semester away from getting my bachelors in psychology, but wanting to get a masters in social work. My question is should I start repaying my loans now, or should I wait until after I graduate? I want to start a fund for my son school, and want to know what is the best one to do or a mutual fund?[View Answers]

What are my chances of getting a scholarship?0maria mendez2012-11-02 23:35:56
School Rank: 101 / 321 (Bad, I know..) GPA: 3.86 I got a 22/36 on my Mock ACT and a 1740 on my Mock SAT, but I'm taking both again in the Fall. I'm enrolled in the Talented and Gifted program at my school for English. I'm taking AP English and AP Psychology, I make A's in both of those classes. I get mostly A's and some B's. (Avg. Report Card is 4 A's and 3 B's.) Next year is my senior year, and I'll be in Advanced Placement for the following classes: English Government Human Geography Spanish IV And I'm also taking an Independent Study class, which counts for AP credit. I plan on being in Student Council and doing a lot of Community Service since I'll have a car. Other Facts: I'm left-handed I come from a single parent household What do you think my chances are as far as getting any type of academic scholarship? I want to be a Psychology major..Do colleges usually give 2-4 year scholarships for a student of my ranking? Thanks for helping![View Answers]
I'm worried about too much debt with a Bachelor's in Psycholoy?0radical102012-11-02 19:27:04
It really sucks becuase I've always been a good student and it just never seems to pay off. I have a 3.7 GPA and for two years I had a 4.0. I went to community college for two years and attended a private college for half a semester (left due to tuition and thinking about changing majors) and now I'm attending the cheapest state school and commuting from home. I have about 25,000 in loans right now, I've only ever gotten on grant for like one grand. By the time I finish with my state school I'm looking at easily 55,000 in debt for my bachelor's degree. This makes me VERY uneasy, but I know finishing college is important and the only way I'll ever be able to pay it off, but I always hear there are no jobs for psychology undergraduates. I would even like to go on and get a masters so I can be a counselor of some sort, but I feel like it's out of the question by the debt to income ratio I'll be facing. I've been in school full time and working part time the entire time I've been in college, I even work as a nanny and make more than minimum wage and do not have pay taxes on my income, and yet for some reason I feel like I make no progress no matter how hard I work. Help?[View Answers]
What scholarships can I apply to, when going to a graduate program?0Sujeil2012-11-02 19:13:20
I'm about to graduate. I'm doing a b.s. in Psychology and plan to do my masters in Linguistics. I would like to know if I can apply for scholarships to do my masters, since I've heard about thousands of scholarships, but all for undergraduate programs. Graduate and post- graduate programs are really expensive, so I'll like to find a way to pay for my education that is not through a student loan.[View Answers]
To pay COLLEGE debt or NOT... MEDICAL REASONS?0Alexis B.2012-11-02 14:57:40
I am in a bind, its been about 5 years since I attended the University in my town. I dropped out due to Anxiety disorder and Anxiety attacks, I have proof of diagnosis but its from 2008 from joining the military but the medical records in my hospital caught fire and I have no proof I suffered from anxiety during my attendance in college. I'm gonna be paying off this debt here in the next month but I can not find way to APPEAL it for MEDICAL REASONS. I really want to go back to school to get a degree, to meet young adults and not be over looked cause I dont have one. I have a fantastic resume but i get overlooked for jobs because the other young single guy has the degree.I have anxiety, always have and I work to the best of my advantage. I see these kids with ipods and cell phones from financial assistance over load and I get so annoyed and somewhat jealous that I am part of the working class paying for those things they buy, the books they learn and the degrees some of them dont use. I want to benefit from using the financial assistance to educate myself on the things that matter to me. And hopefully get Psychology degree with Social Work...... Anya dvice on how to get an appeal than pay??? Can I get doctors notes? word?[View Answers]

Single mother, low paying job. How can I afford college, all the way to PhD?0Roo Kun2012-11-02 01:51:01
I'd like to be a psychologist when I'm older - probably dealing specifically with criminals, though that could change. This means I need to get all the way up to a PhD, which can be really expensive, as I'm sure you all know. I'm already going to graduate high school with some college credit, so I'll have a little bit of that out of the way. Although I'd really rather not, money is tight, so I'll probably wind up getting my basics out of the way at a community college or something. I come from a household with a single mother in a low income job. My father's an alcoholic and left us when I was a child. My mother wants nothing more than for me to get a college education, but college is much more than she could afford on her own. So, basically, if I NEED scholarships to go to college. There would be no other way. My aunt on my father's side was in the same boat, and she got a full ride scholarship to a respectable college. She lives in a different state now, so I don't talk to her much. However, she got a teaching degree and is now working towards becoming a nurse. I'm currently a high school sophomore, if that helps any. I'm a girl, obviously, and I'm pretty much as white as snow, so there's no minority scholarships to look forward to. :/ I would really like to get in to a great psychology school, but even with scholarships, I don't know if I could afford that. I would probably even settle for a 'just okay' college if it came down to it. Help, anyone?[View Answers]
