Careers related to Abnormal and Clinical Psychology?0Stephanie132012-11-06 03:31:00
I am soon going to be starting a Masters course on 'Abnormal and Clinical Psychology'. I was wondering if anyone could give me any advice on the sort of career opportunities this could give afterwards. I am interested in counseling although I believe a Phd is required for this. A career relating to health would interest me or perhaps working with children/young adults as a school counselor. Any suggestions of the sort of career I could work towards are appreciated![View Answers]
Further study and other commitments?0Christy2012-11-05 22:37:57
I’m a second year Psychology student. I am studying hard and aiming for a 2:1! I have been to a careers fair and I'm not particularly interested in any of the work available for me after my degree. They seem to be less linked to Psychology and as I really enjoy the subject I am considering taking a masters in the subject in order for me to get on to a PhD course to become a professional. I know I will have no problem with going where I want to be. Although it's going to take a lot of effort! But I am worried that I will be missing out on getting married and having children. I really want to have children quite young. Around 26-27 age and I am worried I will have to decide between my career and having children/family life. Do people these days have to choose or can both be realistically done the same time!?[View Answers]

Psychology or teaching major?0Deric2012-11-05 19:02:52
I'm in my second year of college and I'm currently a education major. But I've been thinking I want to get a major in Psychology, I am interested in getting a career in either Child Psychology or working with people with depression, anxiety, agoraphobia type things. But I also already am a education major and do like teaching. I also love children and I'm not sure if I want to do all that schooling (plus even more from switching majors) and im not sure if id be able to find a job in psych. Most likely I will be getting a Masters in either degree but ive heard you usually need a phd for a good psych job....any suggestions on what career I could be that would fit everything I nee/want. But I have always had a thing for helping people, and enjoy it a lot[View Answers]
What career is right for me?0Brooklyn2012-11-05 18:53:09
I'm 15 and trying to decide what I'm doing with my future. I'm interested in the medical field and I like children, but I don't know whats right for me. I was thinking about being a pediatrician, but I heard its really hard to get into medical school and it costs a lot of money. I'm also not sure if I want to be in school for such a long time. I was also thinking about becoming a nurse. I'm also really interested in psychology. I need a career that isn't too competitive when it comes to finding a job, because I don't want my parents spending so much on college if I'm not going anywhere with it. Any ideas?[View Answers]

I was a confused child &I still am. What should I do (career-wise)?0Whisky Ï„? 2012-11-05 14:50:16
I'm 19 &in college. I am totally messed up as a person. I haven't gotten anything right or straightened out. I'd like to get one thing right. I don't know if I'm in the right field/major right now. I'd like to at least get that right...or close to it. -I'm interested in psychology &the way people behave &think but I'm definitely not qualified in helping people with their problems (I'm mentally ill myself &slightly suicidal) -I'm also interested in the human body its biology. Like why the body does this when you do that, etc. Oh yeah, and nutrition &the body. Muscles! -I'd like a job/career that is in demand &can be utilized to help people in need of dire help. I am going to try to get into a nursing program now but I'm afraid I don't have the right qualities &personality for it. You need a headstrong personality. You need to be able to make split-second decisions. You need confidence. I don't have any of those. I ask too many "what if's." I go through every option. I'm hesitant on making decisions. I don't speak my mind freely. I'm not too good with socializing. What jobs/careers do you think I will have some luck with?[View Answers]
What direction should I go in life?0 Wu Bi å°› percent -2012-11-05 10:17:21
I'm entering my senior grades with decent grades and dont really seem to have much direction. I am going to a junior college and then a 4 year for sure but I dont know what I would study. I love music, like the same or more than anybody I know but I cant sing or play instruments. I love the outdoors but cant become something like an engineer because I'm not smart enough. And I love helping people, child psychology would seem like a good career because it would allow me to help ease the pain of children and make their future better but I would feel to confined in that job. I dont really have many talents, and those are the only things I love. What should i do to make good money and still be happy in life?[View Answers]

Can I please have some college help?0bat2012-11-04 23:12:49
Hi! I'm currently a junior in high school and I have some questions about college. At first, I really wanted to major in business, but I soon notice that not many colleges offer a business management major. So, I've decided that if the college does offer business management, I will list it as my major, and if not, I'd love to study neuroscience. I live in California, so I want to apply to some UC's (UCLA, UCB, UCD, UCSD, UCSB), maybe even Stanford. Which ivy leagues could I apply to having a decent chance of acceptance? I really like UPenn, Columbia, and Dartmouth. Other schools I've been looking into are Northwestern, USC, Duke, Johns Hopkins, University of Chicago, Rice University, Georgetown, and Carnegie Mellon. Which of these schools would be classified as backups, reaches, and matches? Please help me out, at this time my family can't afford a college counselor. SAT: 2250 (M-760, CR-750, W-740) Math 2: 740 Biology: 740 Sophomore Schedule: AP European History Algebra 3-4 English 3-4 Advanced (Do UC's weight school-based honors?) Chemistry Italian 3-4 Advanced Band Physical Education Unweighted: 4.0 Weighted 4.15 Junior GPA: AP US History Pre Calculus AP Biology AP English Italian 5-6 Advanced Band Psychology/Facing History and Ourselves (each 1 semester) Unweighted: 4.0 Weighted: 4.5 These are the classes I'm thinking of taking senior year: AP English, AP microeconomics/AP government, AP Calculus, AP Italian, AP Chemistry, Advanced Band- too many AP's? I was thinking of possibly cutting out AP English... I’ve only gotten one B through High school in my freshman year in PE. My Freshman GPA was a 4.0 without P.E. though! Community Service: So, I've heard that community service only counts if there is a passion behind it. My passion is educating younger children, often less privileged. I have tutored countless hours in math and science. I've even taught young children how to play the piano. School involvement: I founded a club called "LETS" Here is a little bit about it: LETS Educational Foundation is saving kids today from tomorrow by ERASING the stigma of mental illness. I've been in the band for my entire high school career, I will be "Drum Major" next year in my marching band! I have played varsity tennis both my sophomore and junior year and will continue to do so my senior year. ASB Secretary I have been a "Buddy" in the Buddy's Program since Sophomore year that helps incoming freshman adjust to high school Awards: Hopefully, I'll be a national merit commended student or maybe semi finalist! I got a 220 on my PSAT. So, I'll find out in the Fall if I qualify. Paws Award (Sophomore and Junior year)- 50+ hours of community service during the school year Outstanding Sophomore Musician, Outstanding Junior Musician Many awards from Piano and Flute competitions HOPEFULLY, Ap Scholar Extracurriculars: Peninsula Youth Orchestra- I am in the highest level Magic Flutes- a flute choir composed of flautists ages 15-70! Piano Flute Tennis I'm fluent in the language Farsi, and I take lessons to improve my writing and reading skills. I'm also in the Gifted and Talented Education program at my school I'm honestly begging for some help! I plan on attaching my own short story written in farsi as well.[View Answers]
Who would I have been if I was never exposed to prejudice as a child?0aj2012-11-04 22:50:05
I am a psychology major and do work in the field. I had to drop out of grad school because my advisor was abusive (that's another story, but it turned out to be a blessing) But since I left school I have had more time to think. Would I have cared about different types of people and thier problems, having as much empathy (being able to relate) if I had never been exposed to prejudice. It made me think about human nature. So many people of my ethnicity are into money making careers notably the medical or business field. It makes me feel that if I had never been exposed to prejudice then I would have been more sucess oriented. I don't know if I should go back to school again to do youth empowerment or if I should become a paralegal. I would have cared more about making money then social justice issues if I had never been exposed to prejudice. Look at where it got me. I don't know. What do you think.[View Answers]
