Are you supposed to take regular psychology before AP psychology?1sal2016-07-13 23:33:18
I am considering taking AP psychology online because my school doesn't offer any type of psychology class, and it is something I'm very interested in. Should I take it online, and are you supposed to take a regular psych class first?[View Answers]
I'm looking at Studying Psychology in NJ USA. Where do I start?1Norbert2016-07-13 23:32:49
It's very difficult to separate the wheat from the shaft. There are a lot of colleges offering various courses in Psychology, some online, some campus and some blended. I have two questions in mind: 1. How do I tell that the degree I receive from this college will be of some value? 2. Is it any good to do a course that offers blended learning oprions? (online studying for most times combined with classroom learning at regular intervals)[View Answers]
Psychology vs Bachelor of Science Human Science Major?1Miaka2016-07-13 23:30:40
So I'm trying to get into med school and I want to really push myself to get a 4.0, the great thing about this school and other ones in the province is that there are no prerequisites! Therefore prerequisites is not so much going to be my deciding factor, although if I am applying to other schools, a BSC will come in handy as it will cover most of the prerequisite courses. Anyway, I am interested in both of these majors, and I heard psychology is pretty easy, however my school only offers correspondence (online classes only). This isn't really a problem as I do get distracted quite easily being in class anyway, but a majority of people who praised psychology to be easy did have a teacher which played a HUGE factor in their statement. So now I'm thinking, psychology might not be as easy since I'm doing it correspondence. On the other hand, I am very interested in what Human Science has to offer. However, I have pretty bad ADD in my head and I cannot focus for rats ***, unless I take Adderall. This course contains a lot of biology which would benefit me greatly for med school even if they don't require pre-med. Still, it would mean a lot to me to understand the material beforehand. I like learning about the human body, but when it goes in depth, I become lost immediately then it becomes boring. Therefore, I just know it will be hard for me. So I'm not sure which major to take??? Someone please give me some insight on this![View Answers]
I have big talent &passion in music, but problem is I'm very lazy, laid back person?0victorie2012-11-06 05:51:52
..and life seems to just pass me by. I hate it. Many, if not all people who have known me always told me that I am very talented in music. Not only I can play well &have perfect pitch (ie: listen to any piece of music, and then be able to play it close to perfect after that), but my mind is constantly filled with melodies, compositions, and full arrangements be it classical, jazz, pop/R&B, or some "off-this-world" type of music. There are already several key music-industry &professional, also music teachers that even said that I have very unique, rare talent in music, that it would be such a major waste if i'm not using it,..or if I bury it deep (because of familiy or "real-world" society's pressures &expectations, at my current age). Also, another thing is (I don't intend to boast, as I'll immediately show you my 'problems' after that) many people have found me to be a very smart, deep, and can see "bigger picture" and many things that other normal people usually miss. ah, and I also love art, deep things, philosophy, psychology, and seeing people generally. I am an 'odd' person who loves to 'break the rules' and being adventurous and travel and meet new people, new culture. most hate to get stuck in a cubicle, or in impersonal situation where I can't "feel" a lot. However, the biggest problem that I have is two things: 1. I am -somehow- very lazy, and generally a very laid-back person (ie: I procrastinate too much, especially recently, even when I have some music projects or 'homeworks' related with it). I got easily bored and distracted with details, as I often able to 'see' the completed music all in my head, that I just somehow become veryy lazy to realize it one-by-one in the real life! 2. I FEAR too much things, and How-to-do, so I constantly ask 1,000 people (also from Internet &forums &boards) on how to do this, how to do that, only to get another different answers, and then I'll search for more &more....as a result, time flies by very quickly, and usually I'm just so sad to find that 1 month have passed just because I constantly browsed online &continuously stuck on the Internet, without doing any real thing! These can probably due to certain things, namely perhaps some discouragements from "Realistic-type" of people close to me that view my dreams (yes i do have dream, big one even!) to become a professional musician/songwriter is highly viewed as "playing around" or "unrealistic" or even "IMPOSSIBLE" to achieve, and what makes me sad the most is perhaps of the comments "aren't you already too LATE for that? time to find some real job!" (I'm going to turn 28 this year). Also perhaps because I don't want to dissappoint my parents, that they view me as a "no use" eldest son, and perhaps by not working in a "real job" such as continuing his family-business, or finding a "big $$$$ money" corporate jobs, as he always wanted me since i've graduated from university with quite high GPA (with business finance degree, which ironically i have zero passion/interest in it!). what I really really hate the most is of how fast time flies by, and sometimes after I logged off from Internet/computer, or when I sleep too much, and when I wake up, I can suddenly sit down &think "what the *** have i been doing all these years in my life? how come my life is still the same?? why am i soo afraid to take risks, and move forward??" at one point I guessed that maybe this is why I even FEAR of going the path of being a professional musician, afraid that I won't succeed, afraid that things will go wrong all of sudden (you can never guess what life brings to you!), afraid that the world will just be cold &indifferent to my music compositions, and most especially is, I will become poor &broke, no matter how talented or good I am in music. But at the same time, I also hate very much of where I am right now (ie: I am now helping my father in several of his businesses, from furniture to telecommunications, etc), and often cushion it by going into some 'adventures' on my own, like walking alone in the middle of shopping malls, feel the atmosphere/people, meet &talk to a new person, etc, but I still have not many friends (i don't know why..seems like I'm a loner-type). Please help me! how can I eliminate this problem, before I'll turn 29, 30, 35, and things become even much more depressing to me that I'll feel useless, worthless piece of meat? to be very honest, sometimes I can even really envy/jealous of those musicians/songwriters (or people in general) who always seems to know WHAT, and HOW to do,..and wonder *why* or how come I can't be more *practical* like them, why I kept asking so many questions, and then 'escape' by procrastinating[View Answers]

Advice on whether to take AP Psychology needed?0Rorj2012-11-05 22:41:38
I'm in cyber school, but since my cyber school only has the basic core class teachers (math, English, science, and social studies), if we are interested in taking any sort of advanced foreign language or AP elective, we take the classes through a third party. The third party is basically another online school that we long into just to take the one class because our school doesn't have a teacher for it. I took Spanish IV my first semester, and my AP Psych class is scheduled to begin in a week. My first semester of Spanish IV was through a third party, and it was really tough, and the third party made the class a pain in the butt. But, since I'm really good at Spanish, it wasn't too much of a problem. Do you think it's still worth it to take the AP Psych? I've never taken a Psychology course before, but I'm really interested in it. I am a junior, so I could always take the class next year when I return to public schooling, and it wouldn't be as tough if I had a "real teacher", but I'll also be taking AP Biology, AP English, AP Stat, and interning. Let me know what you recommend :p Thanks so much![View Answers]

Psychology, is this the job for me?0Jestercrate2012-11-05 13:39:24
I had some terrible things happen to me when I was growing up. Not many people know what happened to me, and I am hoping it stays that way. But see, because of these terrible things that have happened to me, I want to help others and be the person who they can just vent and just release all their problems upon. I never had that so I want others to have the opportunity I never got to have. I am also very fascinated by peoples brains. I want to know how they work, what chemical triggers what emotions and thoughts, and how you could stop the amount of the chemicals entering into the brain. I don't know, see I am going into my 11th grade in high school. And I am wanting to take an introduction online course for psychology, but I don't want to do it if I am not good at the job. My friends claim that I do them well, and I have random people come up to me and ask me if they could just talk to me about a problem they happen to be facing. If anyone out here onYahoo!Answers who have taken psychology courses in high school and or university or college could you please tell me if I seem to be good in this professions? Thank-you![View Answers]
Are "IQ" tests still relevant today? Are they being used in schools?0karrimah2012-11-05 08:46:55
Someone involved in education or psychology who knows about intelligence testing. Last I heard IQ tests were out. We had them in school in the 1960s. "Tickle.com" has a funsy online forty question IQ test as a promotional gimmick. Even getting all 40 questions correct yields only an IQ of 144. Yet I hear people claiming IQ levels in the 160 to 180 levels. Yes, I realize that I could use search engines to research this, but I'm interested in personal opinions out there in YA land.[View Answers]

Master's in Education - or in something else? ?0Elizabeth R.2012-11-05 01:48:50
In my state only a BA is required to teach, though there are significant financial incentives to obtain an MA. From what I've heard, there are many MA in Education (Curriculum and Instruction) programs available that cater directly to teachers, but they seem kind of like diploma mills that just help you jump through the hoops (but allow you to finish an MA on the weekends/evenings in two years). I'm also considering trying to get my masters in something more content oriented (I teach secondary social studies) - such as a more traditional masters program in social studies education which is from my local university or an online/distance MA in general psychology. The problem with these programs is that they are sometimes hard to schedule, cost a bit more, and may take me longer to complete. Any guidance or advice from your experiences would be helpful.[View Answers]
Accredited Online Psychology Schools, are they the way to go for a Bachelor's Degree?0Christopholees2012-11-04 23:25:26
I've been in and out of college for a few years, and I get stressed out and have anxiety problems being around a lot of people in a class room environment. When I was college, I always got decent and good grades, but just had some social anxiety. I'm going to a psychologist right now who is helping me. A couple of the programs in the medical field I have been in were to stressful, and I don't like the fact that I would have to operate on people. I'm interested in psychology and how our minds work and made an A in a general psychology course on campus, and thought it was interesting. My mom got a Bachelors degree in Psychology. But, no matter how hard I try to go to school, I don't have the drive and focus to sit during a class room with a bunch of people because I get so nervous, so that is why I thought about getting an online degree in psychology? I know psychology deals with face to face interactions, so most companies might look down upon an online degree, but I'm getting too old and need a degree, and would just rather do online course work. I like helping people out, and usually when your a psychologist sometimes your only helping out one person, and I'm better in small groups than attending a class with a bunch of students. All this anxiety, and add, having trouble focusing in a classroom setting makes it hard for me to even finish any programs. I'm pretty smart, just would rather learn in an online environment, so I need to know a couple of the best accredited online schools that offer the best online learning experience? Any information would be helpful, so I can spend a lot less time on site at a regular campus. Thanks. I've look at Argosy University's website, but don't know if they are accredited or not?[View Answers]
Can anyone working in Human/Social Services/Mental Health have any tips for a panel interview?0Malik2012-11-04 22:43:16
My boss recently offered me a Case Manager Position, and I have not recieved any degree yet. I am attending online classes to get my AA in Psychology; Though honestly, I don't feel qualified enough to do the job and knowing that there are other candidates with degrees and more likely they posess more experience, makes me think that all I have left is a good d impression. It is very difficult because one of the interviewers has never aknowledged my presence, and she is extremely intimidating. In addition to that, this will be the very first time her attention will be directed towards me, so is there anything I should learn by Monday? I can say that I have an advantage of being the last person to be interviewed; because everyone is interviewing back to back all this week. In order to calm my nerves I'm telling myself, "Save the best for last huh?" In reality though, I am scared to death![View Answers]
