Statement of purpose, please help me with it, i welcome any change, thank you!?0Amanda R2012-11-06 01:11:41
As an international Chinese student in the United States, I believe that I have a great deal of business, academic, social, and cultural experience that will allow me to fit in well and contribute to the international flavor of Lund University. One of my most distinguishing characteristics is the diversity of experiences I possess. I am a business student with a flair for the arts. I am a woman with technical aptitude and an interest in entreprenership. I also have a passion for traveling and understanding different cultures of the world. All these elements have given me a very broad outlook, with varying degrees of knowledge in a range of topics. I strongly believe that although some are not related directly, all these qualities will influence my graduate work. My Business degree has given a strong foundation to my analytical skills since business issues research involves a lot of complex and intricate relationships among parties who are aiming at different goals, and the application of basic math, communication and psychology skills. Over the past four years in college, I have been working part-time with my own business, Shining SIM Card, set up when I just became a college student. I was the president of student government and am also an active member with SSE - Siemens Solar Energy. I have assisted my father in his project to supervise and monitor the process in his company during my breaks. More than what I have studied in school and college, it has been these experiences that have shaped the person that I am today. I believe that this unique blend of experiences has made me a woman with an original point of view. This blend has given me a broader perspective to and a good understanding of life and a goal to aim for. Among other things, I have this diversity of experience to offer Lund University. My most substantial accomplishment has been the success of Shining SIM Card that I managed in Dalian, China, where I have been working as a manager since 2005. Entreprenership, as a field, had always fascinated me right from my middle school days, and being an entrepreneur to contribute its utilities to mankind is the life long dream and career objective I persue, it is worthy to devote energy and commitment to found my own business and lead it success. Shining SIM Card, my first big step on my enterprise career, compared with prior experience, grew up from only one employee to fifteen, the main consumers from one campus were enlarged to other 6 big universities and also some small schools of the local city when I graduated. Most of my customers were college students, as a student myself, it was easy for me to do surveies, to know the popular tastes, and the most impressing way to promote the business with very limited resources. The advertisement form developped from hand writing poster on wall to big colorful advertisement scroll and products propaganda for freshmen annually. The goal for advertisement is let 60% of the students consider my products first when they are about to purchase, and let them to introduce us to the rest 40%. Also I had an online sale shop for the convenience of customers, which has been in operation for 5 years. Run my own business required me to believe in myself and in what I thought was good for the company. I had to take a pro-active approach, take the initiative and play a leadership role in motivating people and executing events to completion. A good manager is one who can figure out where problem lies and may happen, deal with it effectively by involving all the members of the company and improve the overall culture of the company. The problems I saw at Shining SIM Card had to be resolved to sustain the company. The fact that I was able to pull off this task alone has boosted my confidence in my abilities. The business climate has never been more friendly toward entrepreneurship than it is today. However, enterprise and creativity alone are rarely sufficient to bring an entrepreneur's ideas to fruition. Though, venturing off into Entrepreneurship is a challenge, one which I think some formal education can help solidify and provide a stronger foundation for success. So that leads me to my application for an entreprenership program at Lund University, and I wish to develop an idea based on research from Lund University, during the master year.[View Answers]
Are on-line college courses just a joke?0Dav2012-11-06 00:53:03
I'm currently employed full time in a job that I love. However, I am interested in looking at more options and maybe going back to school. I don't have the option of an actual university so I'm looking at community colleges in the area and online courses as well. I have two problems, are the online courses credible or just a joke, and two, I am having difficulty finding something I want to do. I'm HORRIBLE with math and numbers, so anything that has a core in that I know I'll be horrible at. I was interested in Psychology but realized that unless I get my masters it's pretty useless. Should I take my Bachelor's degree in Psychology online or on-campus (University of Phoenix; Florida)?0Jezebel2012-11-05 16:10:12
I go to the University of Phoenix and I took my two years (for my Associate's degree) online. Which I was fine with since it was more generalized classes. However, I'm going for my Bachelor's now and the program is completely psychology courses, obviously. But I'm undecided on whether I should continue online or go to campus. Problem is the closest campus (that is providing the program at the moment) is 3 buses away from me. Quite a long journey there. I'm visiting tomorrow to see how long it takes me to actually get there and to finalize my decision. But I'm still unsure if it's worth the sacrifice. I don't like the idea of working in "teams". That makes me uncomfortable. I'm more of an independent learner, so in honesty that's my biggest concern apart from the distance. So what do you all think? Is it worth it or should I just stick online? I like the idea of on-campus because I gain a little extra knowledge from the feedback from others, but still. Thanks![View Answers]

What are my chances at these type of liberal arts schools?[View Answers]
What should I major in to finish my degree?0Sheng2012-11-05 15:30:31
In 1994, I left college, but was still allowed to go through graduation ceremonies, some hours short of completion. Now that I see it, I have basically 30 hours or a full year of undergrad left. I really wrangled my way into the line for grad. Naturally I never got a diploma for my empty folder. But, my whole family thought I had graduated. I have worked as a freelance writer, holding myself out as having a degree in English. I got 2 books published 4 and 8 years ago, I have published articles, blogs and business and grant proposals. I have done mission trips and ministry work with my writing, and am up for a major journalism fellowship (I did not pretend to have a degree on that application). Lately, I have felt very guilty about pretending to have a degree when I don't. Due to serious illness in our family, the construction and publishing markets (my husband's and my work) and a variety of other factors I'm not going to detail here, our family is on welfare right now. As a bit of background, I have not been offered a full time job in five years in spite of my best efforts. I get part time jobs easily and freelance writing jobs easily -- they just don't pay enough for us to pay our bills. My husband (who remodels houses but doesn't charge near enough to support us) and I have to cooperate with the job placement plan in order to keep getting welfare. It's not that the few hundred dollars is such a big deal, but under the program, and since I don't have outstanding student loans, I can go back to school and finish my degree with distance learning through a university about 40 miles from here. I can take online classes or some classes at a center in my town. It will actually take about 2 years because I have to earn 45 hours at this new school to graduate from it. This program offers adult learners courses at the upper undergrad levels and counts whatever coursework you've done to meet the core education requirements. You have to have completed 60 hours to get in and I've completed 98. Here are possible majors available to me: 1. English. Pro: it was already my major and I have a lot of work done in it. Con: I don't see how it will get me farther than I am now. I'm already a published author and journalist and not making enough money at it. I can already get hired for writing jobs based on my talent -- not to brag, it's just a fact. 2. Psychology -- Pro: I like people and helping others. Con: I have absolutely no hours in psychology right now and would have to start with Psych 101. Like all of these, I have the educational core done, but would have to take a bunch of psych and other social science courses. 3. Business administration. I do have nonprofit experience but my lack of degree has kept me from ever getting a job with it. I have no interest in business courses, I'm bad at math, possibly too chaotic for accounting, but I would make more money I think. 4. Teaching certification -- I would go for secondary English. Pro: very easy for me to finish up and possibly steady work that I'd enjoy. Con: Our local school district cut a bunch of teachers this year and I don't want to uproot the kids. I quit the teaching unit when I was at uni before because I didn't think I would be the best teacher. 5. organizational management -- like bus admin but less accounting and other drudgery. Might help me grow my writing business or get a job with a cool organization. What's your advice? Hope it wasn't too long. I tried to break it up into a lot of paragraphs. Thanks![View Answers]
Psychology, is this the job for me?0Jestercrate2012-11-05 13:39:24
I had some terrible things happen to me when I was growing up. Not many people know what happened to me, and I am hoping it stays that way. But see, because of these terrible things that have happened to me, I want to help others and be the person who they can just vent and just release all their problems upon. I never had that so I want others to have the opportunity I never got to have. I am also very fascinated by peoples brains. I want to know how they work, what chemical triggers what emotions and thoughts, and how you could stop the amount of the chemicals entering into the brain. I don't know, see I am going into my 11th grade in high school. And I am wanting to take an introduction online course for psychology, but I don't want to do it if I am not good at the job. My friends claim that I do them well, and I have random people come up to me and ask me if they could just talk to me about a problem they happen to be facing. If anyone out here onYahoo!Answers who have taken psychology courses in high school and or university or college could you please tell me if I seem to be good in this professions? Thank-you![View Answers]
Am I on the right track to get into the University of Florida?0Winston2012-11-05 13:13:04
I'm kind of having one of those freak out moments. I'm currently a junior in high school with a 3.55 unweighted GPA and a 3.86 weighted GPA. Ranked 58 in my class of 380, 85th percentile. I have 13 community service hours to date, but I'm working on getting more. I'm in Quill and Scroll, which is the honor society for journalists I'm also in Link Crew, which is a club for upper classmen to help the freshmen get around during their first semester. I have not yet taken the SATs or ACTs yet, but I have taken the PSAT in both my 10th and 11th grade years. (January and February) I want to major in English literature and minor in Classics studies and maybe U.S. history. My classes: 8th grade: Algebra 1 (I know this doesn't count) 9th grade: Geometry Biology Honors English 1 Honors World Geography French 1 Drama 1 Personal Fitness/Health Tech Systems and Applications (It was a computer/life management class we were required to take) 10th grade: Algebra 2 English 2 Honors AP World History Chemistry 1 Honors French 2 Journalism Journalism (took it both semesters) Photography Online classes for 10th grade: A PE class Computing for College and Careers (Microsoft Office and whatnot) And I started Latin 1 and finished the first quarter. I'm currently finishing up the second. 11th grade: (This is the classes I'm taking and am going to take, considering the year isn't over) AP English Language and Composition AP U.S. History Physics 1 Honors French 3 Journalism for both semesters again Hopefully I'm getting Psychology, Sociology, and Web Design 1 next semester. They screwed up my schedule so I don't know yet. I'm finishing up Latin 1 And I'm taking Pre-Calculus online next semester (part of them screwing up my schedule) Projected schedule for 12th grade: Journalism for two semesters again French 4 AP Psychology I may or may not take Latin 2 online. And I'm debating over my core classes right now. I'm either going to take: AP English Literature Calculus AP Government and Economics or Taking dual enrollment courses over at the community college. Or doing a mix of both. I don't know yet. I'm really sorry about how long this is...[View Answers]
Studying psychology?? easy question?0duke2012-11-05 09:16:34
I'm thinking about going to university and studying psychology but upon reading the course details online it said students should have a background in maths. I'm lousey at math and wondering how much math exactly is involved in psychology? And if so, what type of math (it didn't specify which type) For anyone who is/has studied psychology do you think it would be a mistake to study with sucky maths skills? Thanks![View Answers]

English 10th Grade 3. AP Euro 4. French 2 5. SAT Prep (which I kinda regret now) 6. Algebra II All A's In 11th grade, here are my courses that I want to take: 1. AP Language 2. AP French (they don't have French 3) 3. APUSH 4. AP Bio 5. P.E 6. Trigonometry (They don't have AP maths) In 12th grade, I want to take: 1. AP Lit 2. Physics (They do not have AP) 3. Introduction to Psychology (It is said that UCs accept Psychology electives so I think this will be okay) 4. Economics 5. P.E. 6. Calculus (No AP courses) Is this enough? As if he wants to evaluate us on our selection... canvas or paper. Canvas or paper. Bleh! I don't know. All the articles I find online are ridiculously expensive. I'm not going to spend $31 on an article just for this. So do any of you guys know if paper choice matters? Thanks!![View Answers]
College USA/UK, Financial Aid, what to study?0Ophilia2012-11-04 15:01:36
Hi guys, i'd like to study something, I got the equivalent of GSCEs in UK and highschool diploma in USA with an average of 2.7 in german grades system. Now first of all I am not sure what to study, I kinda take a interest in everything arts related but I know that field doesn't really offer any jobs.. Psychology was interesting me but I don;t know what to await when studying it and if I can keep up with it,though that at least has career opportunities in UK and USA. I am in general good with children and people in general, a problem solver, wondering why people do things and yeah more on the social site. Not really good at maths or science in general so something with as few as possible of that would be good. Now I live on my own and don't really have much money, and due to my age (19) I wouldn't really get a loan approval as my parents dont support me at all, we don't have any contact and yeah... What are my ebst chances? Uni in USA I am not sure how much financial aid is possible...Open universities in UK, I don't really understand their concept that well, anyone knows? Or online studying, I read about that but how do you do assesments then? I mean you just do them on pc? What would be reputable unis there? Also money-wise as I can't afford much. Thank you guys and if you have ideas what might suit me for studying, get them on to me=))[View Answers]

I am usually told I know things not for my age. I am actually a Harriet also the spy. I like trying to figure out other peoples' stuff. I have also hacked or made use of online hackers for without paying. I just like intelligence. While my friend read magazines I read psychology books. I would have joined the forces but I am shortsighted. I have a passion for intel. I do commerce. Someone tell me if I am just cheating myself or what.[View Answers]

Question about medical school for psychiatry?0quarter2012-11-04 08:15:32
I currently go to school online and work full-time with a bank. I changed my major earlier this year from finance to psychology. What I really want to do is be a psychiatrist. I have a 3.45 GPA and I will be finishing my associates in November so I will have enough time to bring that up to at least a 3.6. I plan on attending a 4 yr university (probably local for financial reasons) and then probably do a minor or second major in biology. I have a lot of volunteer experience with the march of dimes, the hospital, and a daycare center. I also have experience working in a hospital while I was in Nursing School a couple of years ago (I decided that wasn't for me). What are my chances that if I do well in the last two years of school (of course), that I will be able to get into a decent medical school? Consider that I am a current psych major and want to have at least a minor in biology.[View Answers]

Any Art Therapists Here?0lianna2012-11-04 03:45:28
(In my English class, we have to interview someone in our field of study. I've been trying to contact art therapists around the USA but so far, I haven't gotten a lot of responses. I thought I would try to post the questions here instead. I simply copy and pasted the word document that I created on here. Since this is an online community, the part where I put write (laughter) (sad) etc was meant for those who are not familiar with acronyms such as "lol" or "haha". The interview is supposed to be informal and I would appreciate it if you would answer your questions just like you were instant messaging someone. I don't care if you use acronyms in your answer. In fact, I would prefer that. I'm in a creative non-fiction class so my creative angle is to have the questions answered in a way that is familiar to a younger generation while still providing useful information. Sorry about this block of text but I'm in need of answers! Thank you so much <3) Instructions: This interview is for my Creative Non-Fiction English class. As a creative non-fiction piece, I would like this interview to be as informal as possible. This interview is geared towards a younger generation of students who are interested in art therapy as a profession. For the creative portion of this interview, I would like it if you would add your emotions to your answers. For example, let’s say as you are writing your response, you chuckle to yourself. After you finish that sentence that made you laugh please write (laughter or lol). If something made you feel sad, write (sad) at the end of your sentence. This way, I can understand how you felt as you answered my questions. Also, as you are writing your answers, if something comes to your mind that you feel is important but does not really go with the question, please write “S/N” for side note (S/N: type your response here). Any information that you feel is important for a student to know about is greatly appreciated. If there are any questions that you are not particularly comfortable with answering, you may skip the question and move on to the next one :) Please write a brief summary about yourself so the reader can know who you are and then proceed to answer the questions. Summary: 1. A question that I hear a lot from non-art therapy students is “what exactly is art therapy”? Can you give an explanation of what it is? a. 2. Can you tell our readers what a typical art therapy session is like? How do you usually start off a session with a new patient? a. 3. What is your office like? For example, do certain decorating techniques in your office influence the mood of your patients? Do you have a studio set up for your patients? a. 4. Would you consider yourself an artist? Do you need to be an artist to study art therapy? a. 5. Was there a certain event in your life that made you want to become an art therapist? a. 6. Do you work with a particular age group? If so, what made you decide to work with this particular age group? a. 7. What graduate school did you attend and why did you choose to attend that school. Are there certain requirements as far as schooling is concerned in order to be recognized by the Art Therapy Association of America? a. 8. What kind of jobs can you look forward to applying for after graduate school? For example, obtaining a job at a hospital, private practice, etc. a. 9. What is a general starting salary for an art therapist? a. 10. What type of personality do you need to have to be successful in your field? Can just anyone become a therapist of any kind? a. 11. What steps do you need to take to go into private practice? a. 12. What combination of major and minor would you recommend for a student who’s university/college does not offer “art therapy” as a major? For example, would you recommend a student to major in psychology and minor in art studio? Or would you recommend the student to double major in psychology and art. a. 13. What would you warn aspiring art therapists about concerning patients? What should they not do during a session? a.[View Answers]
