Can someone please tell me if this makes any sense for wanting to be a social worker?0masaya2012-11-05 17:42:45
I first became interested in social work during college while working with adolescents in a residential setting. I received a Bachelors degree in Psychology from California State Unviersity Dominguez Hills. Over the past five years, I have worked with chidlren and families in a variety of settings including as a youth counselor for adolescents with behavioral difficulties and as an outpatient case manager working with children and families struggling with mental health issues. I have enjoyed working with children, adolescents, and families. Because of my experience working with adolescents on probation, foster care, and department of mental health, this is the population that I would like to work with a Master's Degree in Social Work. I want to focus my research interest on the high rates of recidivism among African Americans and Hispanic males, who continually tend to come back into our system. I would like to help them transition into a more independent way of living instead of staying into the system. I was also homeless for a period of my life so this also helped my decision to want to become a social worker. I experienced some form of being a vulnerbale individual in my life and I want to be able to help others that are often discriminated, vulnerable, marginalized, and less fortunate indiviudals in our communities.[View Answers]

I currently have a BA in psychology. I took one year of graduate school but I hated it and now I am looking for a decent job but I have no experience. I don't know where to begin or how to begin looking for a job. Any ideas on what types of job I could search for (something that does not require experience). I am also a shy person so I job that does not have a lot of interaction with people would be great. 10 Points for best answer !!![View Answers]

I would like to become a Psychologist but I don't know where to start...?0Matty2012-11-05 16:31:02
Well I've always had a dream of becoming a Psychiatrist but when I found out how long you have to go to school my dream was pretty much shot. I don't have the funds to go to school for 8+ years. So I've settled for a psychologist. I actually like the idea of doing more counseling than prescribing meds. Next year is my senior year in HS and when I get in college I know I want to major in Psychology and minor in either Philosophy, Journalism, or education. After graduating college whats next? I know you don't just become a Psychologist when you graduate from college what do you have to do after that? Also, what's the average pay for a psychologist? Is it a good career? All answers are greatly appreciated![View Answers]

What is the next step after MSc Psychology (conversion course)?0lashon2012-11-05 15:59:33
I will be doing an MSc Psychology conversion course which is accredited by BPS but is, however, not specialised. Would I need to do another Master's course, a specialised one (in occupational, health etc.), in order to proceed to a PhD? I've read in the BPS website that if you want to be a chartered member you need to be registered with the BPS and then complete a doctorate or equivalent but it does not say if the accredited course should be specialised.[View Answers]

I'm 18 and thinking of going into experimental psychology. Help?0cassii2012-11-05 15:19:11
I have applied for nursing in university and have been offered admission, but I have not yet accepted. I don't really think that nursing is for me, although both my parents are really pushing me towards it. For some time now, I have been thinking about going into psychology, and more specifically, into experimental psychology. However, I have a few questions. 1) How much can an experimental psychologist expect to make in Ontario? 2)What education is needed? (I have heard that you need 4 yrs in just psychology and then a masters and possibly a doctorate degree?) 3) What are the career options? 4) Are there a lot of career options? i.e. will i be able to get a job? 5) How competitive is this field? 6) For those who have had experience with experimental psychology, what is it like? (in general) 7) I have heard that there is some negative criticism regarding this field. Can anyone tell me more about this? 8) What schools in Ontario (or in Canada) are good for psychology? I would really (really, really , really) appreciate any and all information anyone has on this (even if they don't specifically pertain to my questions asked above) especially if you personally have pursued this career, or if you happen to be an experimental psychologist, or know someone who is. I'm just really concerned about university at this point. I have no idea what I want to do, and right now, this is what i am interested in. I have not applied for psychology in university, but I may go into nursing and then switch into a psychology program. (They let you do that right?) I know that I have asked a lot of questions. Again, any and all answers you may have are deeply and completely appreciated. Thank you!!![View Answers]
I'm interested in cognitive behavioral therapy and I am a successful nanny?0Augu2012-11-05 14:45:24
I'm in college now majoring in psychology. I plan on going to graduate school, but not sure "what kind" of psychology I should go in to? I'm interested in cognitive behavioral therapy (Dealing with OCD behavior, phobias, etc.) I am also a successful nanny and I LOVE my job. If you have ever seen "Supernanny", that's exactly what I do (minus the tv show lol) and I would like to do it as a living. What kind of psychology program should I go into? What would be a good profession? I would really only like to go to grad school ONCE as you could imagine, so I want to make sure I am going into a program that I will enjoy.[View Answers]

What can I do with my love of art and psychology?0endo2012-11-05 14:34:45
I was a psychology student because I am deeply interested in clinical psychology and research. but I left the university to pursue art, which is also a love of my life. I now have a degree in Fine Art, but have never lost my love of psychology, and lately I have been really missing it. I recently began volunteering as an art teacher at my local psychiatric hospital with teenagers suffering from their first psychotic break. I love it. I want to know how to mesh my love of art with my love of psychology. I know most people would say: Art Therapy! But I'm looking for more alternatives. I love the clinical and research aspects of psychology more then the strictly therapeutic aspects, although I do believe that therapy is a cornerstone of healing. I would love to hear from anyone in art and/or psychology. Please feel free to be creative. I will use these answers to continue my research into this subject.[View Answers]
Accredited Online Psychology Schools, are they the way to go for a Bachelor's Degree?0Big Daddy2012-11-05 14:13:13
I've been in and out of college for a few years, and I get stressed out and have anxiety problems being around a lot of people in a class room environment. When I was college, I always got decent and good grades, but just had some social anxiety. I'm going to a psychologist right now who is helping me. A couple of the programs in the medical field I have been in were to stressful, and I don't like the fact that I would have to operate on people. I'm interested in psychology and how our minds work and made an A in a general psychology course on campus, and thought it was interesting. My mom got a Bachelors degree in Psychology. But, no matter how hard I try to go to school, I don't have the drive and focus to sit during a class room with a bunch of people because I get so nervous, so that is why I thought about getting an online degree in psychology? I know psychology deals with face to face interactions, so most companies might look down upon an online degree, but I'm getting too old and need a degree, and would just rather do online course work. I like helping people out, and usually when your a psychologist sometimes your only helping out one person, and I'm better in small groups than attending a class with a bunch of students. All this anxiety, and add, having trouble focusing in a classroom setting makes it hard for me to even finish any programs. I'm pretty smart, just would rather learn in an online environment, so I need to know a couple of the best accredited online schools that offer the best online learning experience? Any information would be helpful, so I can spend a lot less time on site at a regular campus. Thanks. I've look at Argosy University's website, but don't know if they are accredited or not?[View Answers]
