Can you still apply to grad school if you don't meet the GPA requirement?2gyla2017-05-02 00:04:32
I am feeling extremely disheartened right now. I graduated from university in 2006 with a degree in psychology and with a GPA of 2.69. I could have done much better, but I was dealing with several medical issues during those years. I started the online application for my MSW (Masters in Social Work) this morning, but then I realized the minimum GPA is a 2.75 to apply. I have many people lined up to give strong letters of recommendation, and my personal statement is very strong as well. I volunteer at a senior center, speak fluent French, and fix computers on the side, so I am fairly well-rounded. I am feeling disheartened, however, and feel like I should just give up. Should I even bother applying, or will the admissions office laugh at me? The GRE is not required, so that will not sway the admissions process either way. Please help me, I feel like my entire body is heavy and numb with this sinking feeling.[View Answers]

I'm looking at Studying Psychology in NJ USA. Where do I start?1Norbert2016-07-13 23:32:49
It's very difficult to separate the wheat from the shaft. There are a lot of colleges offering various courses in Psychology, some online, some campus and some blended. I have two questions in mind: 1. How do I tell that the degree I receive from this college will be of some value? 2. Is it any good to do a course that offers blended learning oprions? (online studying for most times combined with classroom learning at regular intervals)[View Answers]
Please explain why there are 1-2 pre-req's for a course in graduate programs?1Kieran McCamment2016-07-13 23:32:36
I have a bachelor's in education. I was recently accepted to PENN State for my master's. My initial major was going to be "community and economic development", as I wanted to branch out of education due to the lack of teaching jobs in my area. The pre-req's were ridiculous and I had none of them in my undergrad work. So I looked at getting a master's in my field; education. What I don't understand is (example) say there's a course for "Educational psychology". It has a pre-req of psych 212 (which i never took) and the pre-req for that is psych 100 (which i took). If every class has a pre-req, it will take 5 years for me to get my degree. Why then dont undergrad programs require the classes that will be necessary to further one's education. I just spent 6.5 years in school, I am not about to do that again. It seems like no matter which degree I pick, there appear to be 5-6 extra classes I will need, which will take at least 2 years for me to complete by the time I do take those, then begin the master's. It's like getting another bachelor's degree....crap. :([View Answers]
I'm confused as to why she emails me?1snowy2016-07-13 23:31:27
my ex left me for another guy 6 weeks ago because I treated her bad and now she's sending me an email about a place that helps with depression and stuff that made us break up in the first place, she's really suggesting on email to please go to the research study. It's been a month and she just emailed me to go to that research study place and she begged me. I replied back saying I wanna change for her and that I'm her best friend and that she can count on me and she just said that it seems like I was gaining positive experiences and she was really happy that I decided to go next week and that it will make me move forward towards better things. What did she mean by that? Does she want me to hchange first so she can take me back in her life as a friend? When she left me a month ago it was because I fought verbally against her brother, and her mom. Her family convinced her to let me go and the guy she was already talking to as friends, decided to give him a chance so now they are going out. I was surprised she sent me an email 3 weeks ago as well about an event dealing with anti STIGMA but I didn't reply and just a week ago she sent me another email saying I should go to a research study dealing with borderline persnality disorder. And that I'm also getting free medication while in the 5 month study and she begged me to go and call the place to arrange an appointment and she ended the email with hope all is well. I'm not really sure how she is with that guy now. I don't know anything but more prob they are dating now, not sure. I did hurt her so much for the last 7 years and I was verbally abusive with her and phtsically years ago. I recognize I need help but I'm wndering why it took her so long to try to help me? She's a psychology phd student right now. That's why I'm surprised she didn't push me to get treatment all those years. Now that she's gone she suggests to go to these places. I miss her so much, I replied back nicely but no reply :([View Answers]
Is Psychology a marketable degree at PHD level?1Happyboy stoltz2016-07-13 23:31:12
I'm a senor in high school and I'm absolutely fascinated with an AP Psychology class I'm taking. But is a PHD in Psychology a good investment of time and money? In other words, if i achieve the PHD level, what are my chances of finding a good career? Also, I am ranked in the 2nd quartile in my school, have a ACT composite of 28, and have a GPA of 4.3 on a 5pt scale (Mostly As, some Bs). What are my chances of getting in to a school such as Texas A&M or Purdue? Thanks in advance.[View Answers]

What's a good degree to go along with being an RN?1Darwin2016-07-13 23:29:59
I am going to be waitlisted for the RN program at my community college, I will have my AA completed and since the waitlist is six months to a year, I figured I could start working towards a minor, and eventually a major in maybe Health Services Administration or Psychology at a university. I plan on furthuring my RN degree one day to a BSN as well. Is Health services administration a good degree to get along side become a registered nurse? It seems like it could be fairly useful, and I was thinking psychology simply because I enjoy it. Or if there is another program I'm unaware of that compliments nursing... Any Advice would be appreciated![View Answers]
What's a good college in North Carolina where I can get a masters degree in psychology?1curt2016-07-13 23:22:55
I'm in high school at the moment, and I've been trying to decide what I want to do when I'm out of high school and then what career path I will choose. I really want to be a family and marriage counselor, I live in North Carolina and my dad won't pay for out of state tuition (which I can't blame him for, I'm blessed enough to have a dad that's going to pay for my college in general). But what is a good school that I can get a masters degree for that career?[View Answers]
Speech-language pathology degree?1sharee2016-07-13 23:22:53
I am planning on attending Texas Tech next year and I have my heart set on being a speech-language pathologist. Tech has a masters program for speech pathology, but no bachelors degree in it. The website is very vague on what the prerequisites are for getting my masters in speech pathology, so I was wondering what I should major in. Also, Tech only offers linguistics as a minor, not a major. Would it be ok to major in psychology with a minor in linguistics? I am so confused, please help :) Also, any other information on speech pathology would be greatly appreciated, especially from someone who has hands-on experience.[View Answers]
How much would I REALLY make with a Masters in Psychology?1I am not joe2016-07-13 23:22:42
I ultimately would like to practice, but I understand most states only issue that to doctorates. How much less would I be making with a masters instead of a phd? I know there is wide range, but I live in Tahlequah, Oklahoma, and I just need some guidance and clearer answers. I am willing to move to other states for a better salary. I just don't want to live paycheck to paycheck and to earn a comfortable living. Thanks for any info.[View Answers]

Why does it seem like it's harder to get into PhD in psychology than a law or pharmacy degree?0keiffon2012-11-06 06:38:01
And possibly a medical degree too! I mean, consider the top schools. PhD schools include Stanford, UPenn, Michigan and a few others, and their acceptance rate (PhD program, not Masters) is 4% or less. Law schools are about 7%, even at top ones like Harvard Law or Stanford Law. And Pharmacy PharmD programs are about 15% at top ones like Michigan (4th in nation). Some one explain this to me[View Answers]
