Philosophy AND Psychology..?1ssf2016-07-13 23:30:47
Does anyone know any graduate programs in either philosophy or psychology that includes BOTH philosophy AND psychology? Or careers that incorporate BOTH disciplines? I'm an undergraduate student but looking for something that can integrate both disciplines.... I want to go to graduate school for something that incorporates BOTH. Does anyone know what I should look into?[View Answers]
Program Choice: Medical/Graduate School options?1Azaria2016-07-13 23:30:17
Hi all, I'm in a bit of a dilemma. I'm going into second year at uni and have a decsion to make a decision about what I want to specialize/major/minor in. My primary aim is medical school. However, I'd like a back-up should that not work out. I've decided on clinical psychology/neuropsychology -- which implies graduate school. The conundrum: do graduate schools prefer you to specialize, or would a double-major suffice?? Currently, I have been set on doing a double major: Neuroscience/Mental Health Studies. Primarily because a Neuroscience specialist (my original program) requires more chemistry than I'd be able to handle - keeping GPA in mind. + I have developed a strong interest in mental health studies , and am now torn between the two. Q: However, having thought about graduate school, would they not prefer a specialization in a program?????? Q: Also, regarding both medical + graduate school, would co-op be a benefit to me should I pursue a specialist ^??[View Answers]
Graduate Program in Men's Studies?1dstny2016-07-13 23:22:36
I'm about to graduate with a bachelor's degree in psychology. I have been searching for a graduate program in men's studies. I looked at the commonly referred to school in Hawaii, but they require multiple years in a professional field before admission, and in the field of psychology, I have to get a masters' and a few more years of training in order to get into the professional field of which they speak. Does anyone know of other schools with graduate programs in Men's Studies? Please note: I did look through previously answered questions before posting this, and did not find what I was looking for.[View Answers]

What's was your gpa, or what is your gpa?...What's a good gpa, in what range?0Mady2012-11-06 06:56:54
what was your gpa in high school? college? graduate school? what do you think is a good gpa? ~ in high school i was like a 3.75+ i graduated with honors. college- since i switched my major from hard biology to sociology and psychology it is a 3.2 something, probably a 3.3 by the time i graduate. graduate school i am hoping a 3.2 or higher. i think a good gpa is a 3.0 or higher. since its on a 4.0 scale. its rare to get 3.5-3.9 gpa's in college or yet alone graduate school because of the horrible teachers and curriculm. high school was so much easier. :O) what do you think?[View Answers]

Should I stay in school longer to double major?0Prp2012-11-06 06:04:06
I am wrapping up my biology major in about one or two more semesters. I have come to the conclusion that this was probably the wrong major choice and don't have much interest in pursuing the field once i graduate. I think I want to get into counseling or helping people in a non-hospital setting. My main problem is that I only have a vague idea of where i want to go... and have no experience in those fields. I have been contemplating adding a minor, which i think I will. Most likely in psychology. This may set me back a semester at most, but I can complete those classes at a community college. I am going to a guidance counselor at my school next week, but would just like some opinions: Do you think staying in school maybe another year or year and a half (I've been in school for four years now) and double-majoring is a good option? I would probably double major in psyc or a related discipline.[View Answers]

Question about graduate school specializations?0Danni2012-11-06 05:39:59
I was wondering if your graduate school concentration or major I guess you might call it necessarily has to match your undergraduate major. Right now, I am a psychology major with a minor in mathematics and I'm planning on going to graduate school, hopefully to become a professor. I would rather go to graduate school for mathematics as opposed to psychology, but I'm not sure if I can since it's only my minor. I have taken many math courses, anywhere from calculus and trigonometry to complex real analysis and applied combinatorics, so I feel that I would be well-prepared for a grad program in math, but Im almost apprehensive even to apply with the degree in psychology I will receive. Just for background information, I've considered going for a double-major in psychology and math, but i don't have the time at this point since I only picked up math during my sophomore year. I will without a doubt be able to finish the minor though. Can I still apply to a grad program in math with my current degree path? Thanks.[View Answers]
Senior Year Schedule:?0nautia2012-11-06 05:30:47
Planned Senior Year Schedule: AP Lit Physics AP Psychology AP Statistics Pre-Calc AP Microeconomics AP Macroeconomics Engineering Tech II PE (I need one more to graduate) Some of these will be taken online, but how do you think it will work out? I am only taking one AP class this year, and it is my first AP class ever taken, so I think I need more. I think I want to major in accounting.. so should I take out the AP Psychology to take Accounting I (there are 3 years of accounting, but I didn't know about it then)? I will be done with my Languages, because there is no French II, and there is no way I could start another language because it would only be Spanish I or German I, so I wouldn't go in depth. Also, if I take 2 classes online my senior year, do you think I would be able to also put in AP Comp. Sci online (not available in my school)? Would it be too much? I can't take it over the summer before senior year because I already have a course set up for then. Please add any input.[View Answers]

Issues with my parents and other family members?0sephanie2012-11-06 04:32:00
I'm a 21 year old female. I have a 25 year old brother, who has ALWAYS been the golden child. Every single thing he does is just so fantastic, and I'm chopped liver. I'll give you a few examples... 1. He graduated from grade 12, then starting working a 9-5 desk job, answering phones. That's all he does, and my parents think he's just king sh!t. Right after I graduated I did three years of university in Psychology, then I transferred to a different university to get a degree in Addictions Counseling. I go to school and work.... but they aren't proud of me at all. But he is sooo fantastic. Also, my grandma is constantly telling me I "need to do something" with my life. Tell that to your grandson. What the hell. 2. I have a fantastic condo with my boyfriend. In order to switch schools, I had to move away from home. We've been together for almost two years. We pay our own bills, or own mortgage, buy everything ourselves. My bother was married for 3 weeks (yipee, good job!) then the broke it off, he moved back home for a few months (this was when I was still living at home) and it was alllll about him. When he finally moved out, he moved into this ghetto apartment five minutes away from my parents house because he's too afraid to be too far from them. My parents were at his apartment non-stop for like the first 2 months he lived there. When we got our condo, they didn't come to see it, and when they do come they stay for a few hours, and never really say that they are proud of us or anything. 3. My man is a very nice guy, and has never done anything to hurt me or to make my family dislike him. He's 26. After my brother left his wife, he started dating a girl who is JUST LIKE his ex-wife (good choice...), I told him time and time again that she's a ***** and is bad for him. He didn't listen. Then over easter her and I got into it. My mom and dad both agree that she was in the wrong and she shouldnt have acted the way she did, but then when they are over when my man and I are in town my parents treat her like gold. They go out of their way to treat her good, when she's burnt every bridge with my family, but they don't even try to involve my man. 4. My brother has lost 12 pounds, and every time my family is all together thats ALL they talk about. My man and I have lost a total of 60 pounds, Ive lost 35 and he's lost 25. And they NEVER say anything about how good WE look. ANNNND last but not least... 5. We recently adopted a puppy from a local animal shelter. When we told my family about it they were just RUDE! All they did was talk about how we will never be able to train her properly and how she will never behave properly because "dogs are like kids and they never listen". I just responded with "You can train anything properly if you're not a f-in id*ot." I'm a 21 year old woman, he's a 26 year old man. DO NOT tell us we can not raise a dog. It's not just my parents. It's my whole family too. I just don't know what else to do. It's to the point where I don't even want to share my accomplishments with them because it just doesn't matter. Sometimes I even dread making the effort to go see them. Please help. I just dont know what to do. :([View Answers]
College Majors: Popular vs. Practical?0Mittens2012-11-06 04:13:32
To start out I am attending college myself and aspire to graduate some day. That being said, I attended a couple college graduations last year (1 specifically at the University of Minnesota) I noticed a trend, per se, that shocked me, and at the same time didn't. I sat through the names of at least 1,000 graduates, at this one particular ceremony out of several held by the liberal arts school that spring, and noticed something odd. What I found odd is that at least 80-90% of the degrees that these graduates were getting were the same. Out of the 20+ or so degrees that you could choose from at the liberal arts college of the U of M, the vast majority chose a communications/strategic communications degree. Out of all the departments, which have various degrees within each, such as Anthropology, Economics, Gender, Women, &Sexuality Studies, Geography, Global Studies, Journalism &Mass Communication, Political Science, Psychology, Sociology, and Speech-Language-Hearing Sciences, most chose to major in communications. Every now and then there would be something really specific like women's studies or something else, or someone that double majored in communications and a world language, but all in all there was little diversity over the entire graduating class. Is this a trend or does this happen everywhere? I chose to study a very specific major (I/TT; computer science) and have noticed the same thing (several people studying the same major) when I enrolled. What is the intrigue of getting one of the slightly vague "McMajors" like communications. Why would somebody spend 4+ years in college to get a piece of paper that says they know how to speak and communicate?[View Answers]
Tell me what you think of this anti-bullying and anti-homosexual bullying poem?0derrica2012-11-06 04:10:39
A glass falls on the ground, Breaks in little pieces, No one cleans it from the ground, Child walks in to the pieces. Child cries to his fathers arms, He kisses it better. Child cries to his mothers arms, She makes it better. The child can't walk for a week, Blood was a constant struggle, Every minute, every day, every week, The child would struggle. Self esteem hit a low, Panic attacks happened, Self respect hit a low, Then a bully happened. The bully would hurt the child, Every day he kept the struggle, Call the child names, and beat the child, Simply tired of being in a struggle. The child turned into a teenager, And moved up to highschool, A lone teenager, In highschool. The teenager kept to himself, But his old problems arise, The teenager started cutting himself, More problems arise. The teenager comes out of the closet, A homosexual teenager gets teased, The teenager would cut himself in the closet, Every minute, every day, every week the teenager would get teased. Suicide attempt was a possibility, The damage is done, No way help would be a possibility, The damage is done. The teenager turns to the parents, But the parents laugh at the teenager, The teenager leaves the parents, Disrespect hit the teenager. Sad and scared, the teenager can't find help, But the teenager finds hope, But still can't find help, The teenager persevered with hope. The teenager goes to school, But lives with the ward, The teenager succeeds in school, And leaves the ward. The teenager is now an adult, A successful psychology graduate, Hope was always a help to the adult, The adult now helps teenagers graduate. The homosexual adult will always say, No matter what you are, No matter what you say, You are who you are. Every minute, every day, every week, A glass falls on the ground.[View Answers]
