Can I go back to school and take those 3 classes required to earn the degree or do I have to start from scratch? Thanks[View Answers]

College Majors: Popular vs. Practical?0Mittens2012-11-06 04:13:32
To start out I am attending college myself and aspire to graduate some day. That being said, I attended a couple college graduations last year (1 specifically at the University of Minnesota) I noticed a trend, per se, that shocked me, and at the same time didn't. I sat through the names of at least 1,000 graduates, at this one particular ceremony out of several held by the liberal arts school that spring, and noticed something odd. What I found odd is that at least 80-90% of the degrees that these graduates were getting were the same. Out of the 20+ or so degrees that you could choose from at the liberal arts college of the U of M, the vast majority chose a communications/strategic communications degree. Out of all the departments, which have various degrees within each, such as Anthropology, Economics, Gender, Women, &Sexuality Studies, Geography, Global Studies, Journalism &Mass Communication, Political Science, Psychology, Sociology, and Speech-Language-Hearing Sciences, most chose to major in communications. Every now and then there would be something really specific like women's studies or something else, or someone that double majored in communications and a world language, but all in all there was little diversity over the entire graduating class. Is this a trend or does this happen everywhere? I chose to study a very specific major (I/TT; computer science) and have noticed the same thing (several people studying the same major) when I enrolled. What is the intrigue of getting one of the slightly vague "McMajors" like communications. Why would somebody spend 4+ years in college to get a piece of paper that says they know how to speak and communicate?[View Answers]

College Major Question!?0XOXO2012-11-06 01:35:30
I"m indecisive about my college major, I'm going to be a high school senior this upcoming year and I have two potential majors in mind. They are advertising and psychologoy. I"m wondering, since most people say that you can't really do anything with a degree in psychology..is it even worth it? Personally I think it's pretty interesting, but I don't want to major in something and regret it 'cuz I can't find any proper work. Advertising I'm a bit iffy about...not too sure about how stable a job that can be. I was thinking about majoring in BOTH advertising and psychology, is that possible? Would that even make a good combo? Good input please, I don't need snide comments my 14yr old brother can give me.[View Answers]
Can someone rank the top rated Biological sciences or neuroscience universities on the East Coast?0Hared2012-11-05 23:21:02
I am looking to either go into biology, psychology, or neuroscience as my major in college. I know that Ivy league schools are the best for these subjects but how are other Universities such as Boston U or Stony Brook or Rutgers in comparison to each other?[View Answers]
Would you prefer a job you enjoy or a job you earn lots of money for?0Needs Help2012-11-05 21:13:02
Because most high earning jobs are in engineering, which I think for me would be soul-sucking and boring. College graduates with liberal arts majors (eg. english, political science, psychology) on average have a $25,000 lower starting salary than those with chemical engineering majors. I'm not saying engineering can't be fun, I just think I personally would hate it. So which would you prefer... fun job or high earning job?[View Answers]
Does what math class I take matter to graduate schools?0hehehehehehehe2012-11-05 19:56:26
I'm a psychology major and in the future I plan on attending an out of state, prestigious university. I know it won't be easy, but I'm prepared to do whatever it takes to make it to schools such as Stanford, Yale, University of Central Washington, NYU, Boston University or Emory.I want to study either clinical psychology or experimental. I need to take a math class next semester and my adviser suggested Finite Math. However, the finite math teacher is super incompetent so I'm thinking of taking a more advanced math, either College Algebra or Trig. So my question is, do grad schools consider psych students more competitive if they take a higher level math? If me and a student have the same credentials, grade wise and research wise, can it come down to which student took the stronger math course?? Does my math class really matter that much? Thanks![View Answers]

What to do with this major?0Rae Rae2012-11-05 14:45:03
Ok at the moment I am currently enrolled at a local community college and I am working on getting my general classes, as well as an Associates Degree in Fine Art as well. I would be pretty content with just that degree, however I heard there is not a lot you can do with it and you can't make a lot of money with it. Sometime in the future whenever I do get my associate's degree, if I can't do anything with it and it's not enough education for me to get a good job and what not, I was thinking of transfering to a 4 year college (after saving up money and hopefully finding ways to put my associate's degree to good use), im very interested in and wanting to go to Western Carolina University in Cullowhee NC (it's a/b 4 hrs away from me but I beleive I would be happy there and the cost to go there is fair). The areas of study they have there that I am looking into are: Art B.A. Major, Creative Writing Minor, Interior Design B.S. Major, Psychology B.S. Major OR Minor, and Concentration in Studio Art. I know it is possible to do a double major, even triple major..but what about minors or concentrations? I can be creative and I love helping people. Im wanting to major in something, minor in something &I might get an concentration. Any ideas people?[View Answers]

So should I major in Biology, Biomedicine,Psychology, Neuroscience, Premed, or Physical Therapy? Or do you know any good schools that offer this degree? Any thoughts or ideas would be appreciated. Confused about what to put as a major...?0cutiepie2012-11-04 14:54:52
I'm a senior in high school applying for colleges. I have a lot of tentative majors I want to get into such as Nursing, History, Architecture, and Psychology. (they're kinda all over the major spectrum) I've talked to people who majored in Architecture and Nursing and I'm interested in both majors, but I'm not really sure if they are right for me. My high school career was centered mostly around the science/medical field and I have no design experience. Undergraduate Architecture Majors have to turn in a portfolio early so I'm not sure if I should take some design classes beforehand. I love History and Psychology but I'm not sure if the jobs they offer are financially safe? Or should I just go into a college undeclared? >__< [View Answers]
