How can I become motivated and passionate about something?0Jeet2012-11-05 14:39:17
I am 20 years old, and I have been depressed and anxious for a long time. I also believe that I might have Avoidant Personality Disorder. I don't want to take drugs, and I don't feel like there is any point to artificially making myself feel happy if my life still isn't going to amount to anything. I am in college now, and as a junior, I still don't know what I want to do in terms of a career. One week I'll be set on something, and the next week it'll be something else. I've just decided to major in Psychology and to try to get into a PhD program, as I want to do something to help other people in a field that I know a lot about. My problem is that I have a lot of social anxiety and am unable to pass any job interviews. Sometimes I feel like this problem will never go away, and I decide that I want to just quit college and get a full time job doing something boring like dishwashing, and use video games as my escape for the rest of my life. I can't imagine myself ever having a career or being in a position where I can be comfortable with myself. And when I look back on times in my life, I realize that I could have done a lot of things to improve my situation and outlook on life. For example, I've been writing a novel for years now. I have told several people the idea of the novel, and they have been asking about it since then because they find it interesting. You'd think this would be a good source of motivation, right? Well, I've written a total of three paragraphs, because I find myself unable to become passionate about the story or anything at all. Without passion, I have no motivation. Instead of going out and meeting people, exercising, and doing all the things that normal people like to do, I sit around in my dorm and worry. Instead of writing that novel, I spend my free time playing an online game where I literally just click on a monkey over and over again for hours on end to steal all of its money. I was wondering if anyone had any advice on becoming passionate and motivated about something. I'd appreciate it if you don't answer if you're just going to tell me: -To go to a doctor or any type of counselor -To call the suicide hotline (I am not suicidal) -That I am any sort of evil or inconsiderate person for asking this question Thanks in advance :)[View Answers]

I worked since last feb. as a staff writer in news/ reporter for the Eastern Washington University newspaper, and started this at 16 years old. My boss doesn't know how old I am. I will continue this job next year. I just completed a surgeon job shadow at Sacred Heart Medical Center. There were 50 applicants, 4 were chosen, and I miraculously got in somehow. lol. That was very cool. I was also accepted into the Yale University Junior State program two weeks from now...I am awaiting word from my parents as to whether or not I can go this year. >< Worked as a library intern the summer before last. I am going to write a book this summer. Staff Writer/reporter for The Easterner Don't have my SAT I results yet. I will retake it in October. I have a bad feeling about it though....): Here comes the bad part...my GPA is only a 3.52 at this point. I will work very hard to raise it. IT'S GOING UP. I'm a perfectionist, but I don't want to set myself up for failure. Please let me know if I can get into a top school, or if I just be realistic and start looking at state colleges. I just took the SAT but I wasn't in tiptop shape (family problems before it--didn't study, it was only a dry run), and I got an 1880. I know that's really low for the schools I want. However, I know that I can raise my score; I want at least a 2100, and I'm studying over the summer. P.S. I am a white female.[View Answers]
Why am I required to take art or theater appeciation as a math major?0Bray2012-11-05 14:25:59
For the teacher ed. program, they won't even allow me to take like English Literature or something, I am required to take either art appreciation or theater appreciation, and I certainly fail to see how this is productive for me as a future math teacher. They at least should let me have more choice, like poetry or creative writing if I am required to take a nonsense course. Does anyone see the point in making a math major take one of those courses? The history and writing and psychology electives are bad enough, but understandable, but this part is ridiculous to me.[View Answers]
Accredited Online Psychology Schools, are they the way to go for a Bachelor's Degree?0stork2012-11-05 13:45:30
I've been in and out of college for a few years, and I get stressed out and have anxiety problems being around a lot of people in a class room environment. When I was college, I always got decent and good grades, but just had some social anxiety. I'm going to a psychologist right now who is helping me. A couple of the programs in the medical field I have been in were to stressful, and I don't like the fact that I would have to operate on people. I'm interested in psychology and how our minds work and made an A in a general psychology course on campus, and thought it was interesting. My mom got a Bachelors degree in Psychology. But, no matter how hard I try to go to school, I don't have the drive and focus to sit during a class room with a bunch of people because I get so nervous, so that is why I thought about getting an online degree in psychology? I know psychology deals with face to face interactions, so most companies might look down upon an online degree, but I'm getting too old and need a degree, and would just rather do online course work. I like helping people out, and usually when your a psychologist sometimes your only helping out one person, and I'm better in small groups than attending a class with a bunch of students. All this anxiety, and add, having trouble focusing in a classroom setting makes it hard for me to even finish any programs. I'm pretty smart, just would rather learn in an online environment, so I need to know a couple of the best accredited online schools that offer the best online learning experience? Any information would be helpful, so I can spend a lot less time on site at a regular campus. Thanks. I've look at Argosy University's website, but don't know if they are accredited or not?[View Answers]

Best path to becoming a computer game designer?0july2012-11-05 13:17:50
I'm currently 16 years old and I've picked my A-levels as English literature, history, media and art. My back ups are I.C.T and psychology. This isn't finalised as I have an interview to attend. Are these good A-levels to go on in becoming a computer game designer? By a computer game designer I mean someone who writes the storyline, picks the setting and makes storyboards of how the game is going to look. I'm not so much interested in the programming. Animation I wouldn't mind, but ultimately something that involves ideas. What tips would you give someone who is going to work at becoming a game designer? Is there certain things I can do? Qualifications I need? All help will be great![View Answers]

How about Flagler College?0lok2012-11-05 12:56:38
So I'm a sophomore in high school and I had recently received information on Flagler College in St. Augustine, FL. I live in southeastern Virginia and I was looking up all of these and when I ran across this one I couldn't help but notice the price! Very affordable, I have a question though...is it a challenging college? I'm currently in the Pre-International Baccalaureate program (going into full-fledged next year) I'm doing pretty decent when balancing my grades with how challenging it is. Since I'm not exactly sure "what I want to be" I've decided to possibly major in Psychology and take a minor in business (figured it'd get me somewhere ;]) Are the dorms nice and is it a good school? Let me know, please! (: Heather<3[View Answers]

I'm a junior in high school now and I want to start looking at colleges but it seems like every school you ask people about has "a great psychology program." Are there any schools that have better than average programs or are best known for their psychology programs? If it helps, I would like to stay near New York or somewhere on the East Coast. Careers in the health field?0anan2012-11-05 12:21:55
I am getting ready to apply for the Nursing Program this fall, I love the idea of trying to get into a career where I can help people. However being a single mother I am not sure if will be able to stop working to go thru the program full time, since my bills will not stop and it makes me feel a bit uneasy. I am saving money and have loans I can take out. . but not sure if I want to depend on loans, who wants to 60+ thousand in debt by the time you graduate. I know in the end it will be very rewarding personally and financially and I am not ruling out applying to get into the program. I am just looking for other ideas on other careers in the health care field or even psychology/sociology classes are very interesting to me that wouldn't require me to stop working for years at a time. I am very interested in law enforcement not a police officer but the forensic aspect but from what I hear its glamorized on TV and the jobs aren't the abundant. Any who not I am rambling lol I can juggle school and work pretty well but if it came down to it, I only see myself being able to completely stop working for about 2 years so any advice would be appreciated. Is it ok for a guy to act this way?0Daisy2012-11-05 12:07:09
a guy friend i know for 8 months now and kinda have the hots for always mentions how good-looking he is (which is true, he is EXTREMELY good-looking) but everything in his life revolves around that...he only wants to be with the most PERFECT kind of girl (which must be why he's been single forever it seems) and he wrote a whole page in his notebook about what kind of perfect girl he wants (he mentioned that body of text once and i read it out of a burning curiosity when he wasn't looking), my conclusion is that he wants a custom-programmed life-sized barbie doll. he's quite snobby too and believes that he'll be a famous actor/singer/dancer one day tho he absolutely CANNOT sing or act, he dances fairly good. he reads many psychology books that are deluding him that he'll be rich and famous soon since not only is he an illegal immigrant but is a lazy pothead and occasional Ecstasy user. he keeps getting fired from jobs, but i know he has a vulnerable side that he is constantly fighting within himself. so tell me, does he have narcissistic personality disorder? there is a term in a foreign language that translates "mania of greatness" meaning someone who feels like they're all-powerful, invincible, or destined for greatness and always expresses this to others, this sounds a lot like him. is it wrong of me to think he needs therapy? or do all guys feel similar to him but few have the balls to admit it? LOL any comments are welcome![View Answers]

Why Would a Chiropractor Try To Rape a Patient?0Kari2012-11-05 11:27:41
Why Would a Chiropractor Try To Rape a Patient? Can you tell the the psychology of a chiro to that would try to rape his patient ( could it be drugs, mental illness, or worse or a combination of both) He held an innocent woman for six hours as a hostage against her will... She tried to get out 3 times but he would try to grab or block her. He is six feet tall and a wrestler, and he told his patient that he goes to a 12 step program is being treated for mental illness. His behavior would change from straight to enraged his eyes would turn into devil's eyes when he got violent... and his manner would change and he was very threatening..... Just curious how could this sick bastard practice when he nearly tried to rape me. How can this sick bastard live with himself? 2 minutes ago - 4 days left to answer. Additional Details He NEVER even treated me......another chiro did. So, why did he single me out to attempt to rape me? Yes, he was reported to the board, state, and police, but they said he would have to rape or do something to me to make it more effective.................. So a sick man walks..........................He is in Burbank, Los Angeles.[View Answers]

What Should I major in?? psychology or..?0bob!2012-11-05 11:21:28
I know how psychology doesn't offer a stable job w/o grad school..which is what I want to do in the future, although the clinical psychology program is tough to get into. I know I love psychology..and here are the programs I've applied to and got accepted to (for undergrad); 1. Psychology Bsc. 2. Psychology BA Hons. 3. Arts and Business Co-op (Psychology Honours and Business with Co-op) Which do you think I should major in? Sciences isn't my strongest point. I want to go to grad school but I have to be realistic and realize that maybe my GPA in university won't be high, and I might not even get into grad school and id be left only with my undergrad. Are my GRE scores adequate enough to get into a M.A. Psychology program?0jasmin2012-11-05 11:06:57
I scored a 930 total: 380V, 550Q, and 5.0AW I will have 2 years of research experience in a clinical oriented laboratory, 1 year of research experience in a social oriented laboratory, and I should be helping with research in a third laboratory this fall. My undergraduate GPA was 3.7; I'm also taking a few more statistics courses this year: regression analysis, ANOVA, experimental social psychology, and experimental methodology to bolster my statistics area. I will have my name on 3 abstract posters this year, and I've started to write the literature review section for a manuscript where I will be the second author. The only annoyance in my application is my GRE score. I studied for about 3 months; I did not take more than two practice exams, however. Perhaps this was my downfall? I felt so stressed before the exam and during. I have a passion for writing, so my verbal score does not accurately reflect my ability whatsoever. I'd appreciate any advice or feedback that anyone can offer me, or any insight as well. I currently own "Barron's GRE 2009" preparatory book, and I have about 50 practice exams. Should I finish going through the book first and then try some practice exams when I have the chance? I feel like I should finish selecting graduate schools before I begin studying for the exam again, as most deadlines for M.A. psychology programs aren't until later in the year (i.e., January, February, etc.).[View Answers]
Completely Lost about my life?0inder2012-11-05 10:44:04
I'm 20. A junior in college and I'm on Extended Final academic Probation, which means it's literally my very LAST chance to bring my GPA up to good standing. Last semester (Fall2010), I did good on all my classes except for one, Psychology (which was a Statistics-based course. I failed a Statistics class and another psychology class back in Spring2010 which was why I was put on probation in the first place, then I was put on Final Probation when I retook the Statistics class in Summer2010 and failed it again. The only reason I took this Stats-based Psychology last semester was because it was required for my major). I'm so lost on where my life is heading. When I think about the very real possibility of me Failing out of school I freak out. I lose sleep, I'm always anxious and I'll just walk around the room not knowing what to do with myself. It's currently the very beginning of my Final academic probation semester (Spring2011) and I'm freaking out. I'm also freaking out because I have to appeal for my financial aid. If the appeal isn't approved, I won't be able to continue to go to my school and I'll have to leave. It's like it's already programed into my head that I'm not going to make it. Even if I do make it through the semester, I'm not sure what I'm going to when I graduate. This isn't the first time I've had 'episodes' like this but they were never as bad as they are now. Growing up, I've always felt like I wasn't normal, mostly because I was always made fun of as a kid(I'm VERY overweight). It's been difficult for me to make friends. I'll look at other people who have close friends they hang out with and they seem to have such a connection with one another. With the few friends that I do have, I don't feel that. I almost always feel like a third-wheel. They're closer with each other than they are with me. I feel like the only reason they hang out with me is just because their being nice, that I'm not a legitimate friend. I get nervous around people and don't talk much. I feel like I might say something stupid or something. Sometimes when I walk passed a group of people, it's always in the back of my mind that their talking about me or laughing at me. I've never had a boyfriend. When I'm around guys I feel like they could be disgusted by me at any moment. This is why I don't go out much. I stay in my house and watch TV and browse on the computer. My family just chalks it up to my being lazy (which is somewhat true). Basically, I sometimes feel like I'm a failure in some aspect of my life. That I'm a 2nd class person. I feel like I'm at the breaking point. I don't want to end up one of those 40 year old who lives by themselves with no one meaningful in their lives. I just don't know where my life is going. A good analogy would be "I'm in the car but I'm not in the driver's seat".[View Answers]
