Patient Care Technician or LPN in New York City?0Nuwan2012-11-06 05:08:03
I'll be obtaining my Bachelors in Psychology next May. I want to obtain my Masters in a Physician Assistant program which requires direct-patient care experience for admission. Is the LPN profession better than Patient Care Technician when it comes to pay, workload and respect? I am currently enrolled in a CNA/PCT class and would like to know if I should bother pursuing my LPN license afterwards. I am contemplating signing up for a LPN program being sponsored at a local hospital which will begin in September 2009 - 2010. However, after the program is completed, I'll be required to work for years until 2012. While I would love the opportunity to provide care to patients in need, I am also concerned that starting PA school in/after 2012 is a long wait. I know this is long and I am grateful to anyone who takes the time to help. Greatly appreciated.[View Answers]

Maybe in the end, I'm only trying to act various kinds of me? The diary of a loser.?0Mckenzie2012-11-05 10:31:09
Sometimes, I don't seem to get what I am. I have thought about various versions of me, all of which seem so real and so true, and so reachable. But in the end, I am too lazy to do the things I don't find meaning in, and therefore I can't reach my goal. I have thought of myself as a transgendered male and now... Maybe I'm a girl. I don't know the clear definition, and how I feel often shifts. Some days I feel like a boy, on some days I think all that transgender stuff is just an illusion. I have thought of myself as a computer scientist/engineer. And I thought, as long as I keep trying and take steps to reach it, as long as I sit in front of a computer all day long or just read the math equations over and over again, I could fully grasp the idea. But now it seems that I just don't have the mind for math, or programming, in that sense. I have connected many nouns with myself, thought that they were true true, but it seems like I'm just playing a game. In the end, I don't even know who I am. I thought getting into the field of computer science could help me get rid of the troubles of dealing with humans; however, this doesn't seem to work for me. About what I really like? I like creative writing, psychology, music, and maybe subjects connected with the anatomy of humans or animals.. I want to do things that are really beneficial to mankind. I like writing. This is why I'm writing so much here. I have a calculus test tomorrow, and yet I'm sitting here writing something to post on yahoo answers. Maybe I'm too lazy. Maybe, like some philosopher said, the biggest responsibility of a romanticist is just to ponder around all day. I like this saying. I am a romanticist... or I'm just thinking too highly of myself.[View Answers]

Do graduate school care about what your major is?0Mireya2012-11-05 09:42:24
I'm considering to major in psychology and double minor in cognitive science and criminology. But some people say that double major is better than double minor... Since my goal is to get admitted to a clinical psychology graduate school program, I was wondering if graduate schools highly consider what the applicant's major is. thank you in advance![View Answers]
Do lawyers that have Phds make more money than lawyers that don't?0vn2012-11-05 09:14:24
I was just wondering because I plan on going to law school and then practice corporate law. But lately I've been thinking about doing a Phd program in neuro-psychology also. Do lawyers that have a phd make more than lawyers that don't? If so, I'll put in the extra time in school. Thanks, K[View Answers]
Fields in Psychology that make the most money with just a Master's Degree?0Jacy2012-11-05 09:09:39
I'm a Junior in college and I've been reading about certain grad school programs. I think I'm finally getting an idea of what I wanna do with a Master's degree. I know for sure I don't want anything higher than that. The fields I'm most interested in are Clinical Psychology, Clinical Social Work, Mental Health Counseling, and Marriage and Family Counseling. Pretty much anything that involves one on one therapy sessions with patients who either have disorders of some kind or patients who just feel a bit overwhelmed. I keep looking for which field may pay the most and best fits my interest, but there are no websites that give me straight forward answers about salary. Can anyone help? I'm really not interested in I.O. Psychology so that's not an option for me. I know money shouldn't matter as long as I'm happy with what I'm doing, but to be honest what's the point in accumulating so much debt if I'm gonna be broke and struggling like my parents? I don't want a fortune once I graduate grad school, but I wanna know which fields will lead to a better salary as time goes on. Maybe something that starts in the 40,000's and eventually goes up to about 65,000 or something.[View Answers]

Finish bachelors or back to community college?0rennie2012-11-05 08:26:00
I have one year left to finish my bachelors in psychology and anthropology, but I know I won't be able to get much of a job with that so I looked into a one year program doing something I think I would enjoy: dental assisting. In my area (Florida) certified dental assistants can make 15/hr on average. However I would get a lot more financial aid and have more free time if I finish my bachelors.... but then I probably won't find a job. I don't know what to do, next year I have to either finish my bachelors or do this dental program and finish my bachelors at a later date. I want to be able to get a job, so what is the best choice? BTW, this is the last year I want to be in school. I'm not interested in grad school, all my friends that went are in even worse debt and work at Starbucks or Walmart.[View Answers]

Can I you check my High school courses for College?0faith2012-11-05 07:43:25
I want to enroll in a UC (University of California) or a Private School for college later. Are these courses good? At my 9th year in high school, I attended a public high school: 1. Honors Lit I 2. Geometry 3. Dance I 4. Honors Bio 5. French I 6. Beginning Drama/Health All A's At 10th grade, I had to attend an online homeschooling program (they did not have Honors): 1. Chem 2. English 10th Grade 3. AP Euro 4. French 2 5. SAT Prep (which I kinda regret now) 6. Algebra II All A's In 11th grade, here are my courses that I want to take: 1. AP Language 2. AP French (they don't have French 3) 3. APUSH 4. AP Bio 5. P.E 6. Trigonometry (They don't have AP maths) In 12th grade, I want to take: 1. AP Lit 2. Physics (They do not have AP) 3. Introduction to Psychology (It is said that UCs accept Psychology electives so I think this will be okay) 4. Economics 5. P.E. 6. Calculus (No AP courses) Is this enough? What else would I need to do to get into a UC? I am also doing outside activities and volunteer work and studying SATs. I have to homeschool for the rest of my high school years. Should I get a second Bachelor's degree in Computer Science?0parakeet2012-11-05 07:26:53
I just graduated 6 months ago with a BA in Psychology. In these 6 months I've been unable to find a job, and have become nervous about pursuing graduate school (I would have ideally liked to be a professor of psychology and a researcher), hearing about how PhD's are not doing so well. So I decided to apply to a second bachelor's degree in Computer Science. When I started college, I was a CS major but changed to psychology. Now I am going back. 1) I don't have math above Algebra II. 2) I don't have physics. 3) I've taken 2 courses in CS-> 1. Intro to Programming and 2. Operating Systems Do you think its wise to do this, career wise? I have been working at Starbucks with my BA. I'd like to do something lucrative, and have an interest in Web Design and AI.[View Answers]

Preparation for Master's Program in Speech Pathology?0naxea.b2012-11-05 06:03:10
I would like to go to grad school for speech pathology. My current university does not offer classes or a program for speech pathology. From the research I have done, I will have to take a lot of prerequisite undergrad level classes before I can begin my master's curriculum. My school doesn't offer any of these classes, but I can still take them at the university where I will do my master's work (It will add like an extra year, but that's not a big deal to me). Are there any other general classes, like psychology classes or something that I can take that will give me a foundation for the graduate work? I have already taken general psychology, biology I, chemistry I, social psychology, sociology and psychology of exceptional children and youth (special ed class), and a voice and articulation communications class. I am currently a special education major at my university. In the fall I plan on taking: a few literacy courses a learning disability class, methods of teaching early childhood special ed working with parents of special ed children psychology of the mentally retarded and last but not least, cognitive neuroscience. Will some of my special education classes possibly come in handy? Also, if y'all have any knowledge about graduate speech pathology programs in the states of Arkansas and Mississippi that would be great too. I am looking at the programs at Mississippi University for Women and University of Central Arkansas in particular. I go to school in MS, but will probably move to Arkansas with my fiance in the next few years. I have a year left before I graduate with a degree in special education, then I must teach in the state of Mississippi for four years to pay back my teaching scholarship. I was planning on either starting my graduate work while I am teaching or right after my required four years a up. Thank you for your help![View Answers]
